& A Manufacturing, Danny Jensen of Jensen Cycles, and Don Malley of Malley's all had fun. The Grand Prix should return in the spring and may tum into a three part series. An idea has sprung up that would take the event from a place like Orange County to some place in Central California, and then on to Fremont. A point fund would add to the attractions. Saturday night would find a rock band concert for the feature. Sounds like a great idea. ....._CAllLE Results LIFE MINUS 70" Minis: 1. Jim Cartwright (Hon). 2. Rick DeLong (Hon). 125 Jr: 1. The 125 Experts saw Jeff Younger outrun Eddie Brown, but at this writing, the winner of that class is stilJ unknown. Because of problems encountered in this first motocross event to be staged at the beautifully laid oLit course at Sears Poin t, the program was cut short and I'm still not certain what the official results are, but will include any if received before deadline. However, here is how it went unofficially. The J25 Experts hit the first comer with Jeff Younger (Hon) determined to either crash or win. He won. Jeff was still pulling away when the finish flag came ou t. Eddie Brown finisbed third and combined this with another third in the second moto to go home with the money. (J think!) The Sears Poin t motocross track has to be one of the most manicured courses ever laid out north of Saddleback. There is snowfencing all the way around the 2.8 mile long course. There is a starting line which is' wider than most, with a run to the first comer which allows one to hit fourth gear before the first comer. The first corner, an uphill sweeper, allows plenty of Matos were crowded and short. This sort of thing made for one nasty fint corner crunch. . pORTING & ?IPES room, for those who wish to avoid the inside crowd. And most important of all, tl!ere is no one around for miles to complain about the noise. The course is located at the junction of highways 37 and 121 in Sonoma County, north of San Francisco. More racing will be promoted and be welcomed by many riders of this area. All that was lacking was Howard Cosell. In the 250 Expert contest, Danny Leet (Mai) took the lead in the only moto for this class and showed his usual stuff by beating Pete Scarlett (KTM). Pete has been getting it together after trying at least three different mounts before sticking to the one he is on' for any amount of time. Hang in there Pete. The Open class was the one to watch. Bobbi Grossi, Jeff Loff, Chris Willems, Danny Lane, and a host of other Experts waiting to get it on. Also out for the first time in that class and for the first time on a new machine, was Danny Leet. The rubber band went and so did the Open Experts. Bob Grossi took the lead on his Husky and bad knee, while Leet on his new love, was jammed into the middle of the pack. Jeff Loff was running third or fourth and Chris Willems got punched from behind when the traffic backed up in the set of S·tums off the first comer. Coming out of the back of the course, were two very fast riders dueling each other for the fro\lt position. Bob Grossi and Danny Leet, sailing much further off the large jump than they wan ted, rounded the f"mal comer on the first lap. The rest of the group was somewhere in the bac k just then hitting the straight·away. Through the up-hill S·turn came Bob and Danny. Every eye was on the pair as they charged up and down the hills in the far back of the course. Then they were lost from sight. When they reappeared, il was Danny Leet showing Grossi a new line. As the leader came by the finish, the white flag was put out. he leader started for the pits and Grossi took advantage of the mistake and charged by the confused Leet. Then they were ou t of sigh t in the bac k sections of the course. As luck would have it, Leet emerged the leader and the victor while Bob Grossi took second. (The though t crossed my mind that Bob is such a good sportsman that he may intentionally have let Danny by but Bob would never admit to such a thing. That's why Bob is such a·' good sportsman.) The last I heard, Danny Leet with his two Maicos and mucho cash was heading for the ban k and the car wash, a • very happy man. That guarantee added HORSEPOWER by E.C. Birt.
