Mike Bast regains the title

COSTA MESA, CAL., OCT. 26
Bast' is best. All season Mike Bast
has been the point leader and it is
only fitting that he win the title of
Mr. Speedway. Unlike any other
motorsport, the top spot is earned
in just one night of racing and
with all the marbles up for grabs,
Mike did just that. He outscored
every ri~er that night by outriding every
man on the track except Don Cullum,
the only rider to take a point away from
Mike all nighlf
- The sellout crowd saw the very best
the sport has to offer, and there was no
time that anyone sat back and watched
wha't was going on. It was a whole nigh t
of sitting on the edge of your seat and
jumping up and down.
The very first race was one for the
record books. Larry Shaw held off Steve
Bast ,as the fans went wild. Few gave
much thought to Larry because- he has
not been up to par all season and was
not considered a threat, but he did
prove to be one of the bigger upsets ,of
the night.

This was the best national race meet
ever, and that is an understatement.
