Adjacent to the public site is an existing competition motocross track which will continue as a private operation, There is presently open to the public a 12,000 square foot recreation center featuring food and beverage, pin ball machines, pool tables and banquet facilities. The recreation and food cen ter is an unusual round silver dome originally designed by Aerojet to test fire Moon missile engines. To get there take Highway 50 to Prairie City Road exit (18 miles east of Sacramento), go south to White Rock Road, turn right one mile to the entrance to the park. Fremont Friday By Bill Spencer FREMONT, CAL" SEPT. 14 The absence of Mark Smith at tonight's Black Plate scrambles made for some lively action in his usually dominated 125 and 250 Expert classes. Mike Kalamaras took home the big win in the 250 over Jim Coates and Chuck Kole while Dick Gracia came up the winner of the sole trophy in the 125. class. It was a big win for KaJarnaras after a dry spell, his 650 Triumph suffering with a set of split cases. The win was thus doubly worthy and kept him in second spot in the high plate series. The ride of the night in that class came from little Chuck Kole who started back on the cheaters line and worked his way through for the third spot just ahead of Danny Castellano. Jeff Rose and Gary Spinazze had quite a to do in the 125 Novice class with Spinazze making the most mistakes to finish second. Both look like future stars. Greg Ragon has won jus about enough 250 Novice Main events on Tom's Cycle Suzuki to not have to ride that class anymore and the Juniors should really like to have him in the fun. Len Macchiarella (2421, the 250 Senior winner at Sunnyvale, leads Mike Middleton. won overall, Peters took second and Rocky 'Pocock captured third. Dave Austin (Hon) showed the 250 In termediates who was boss in that class. Dave walked away with both motos easily. Forrest Galt, who has been running rather consistently lately, made off with second overall. Glenn Stiefel, a new name in the Intermediat~ class, took third place. Al Ferguson (Hon) and Bob Geffert (Hon) had a real knock down drag out race for first place in the 125 Intermediate class. Geffert had the lead for a few times and what happened to Geffert when he had the lead? He crashed, what else! Bu t when Geffert got going again, he started to go fast. Geffert had to settle for a second behind Ferguson. San-ta Rosa Short Track By James Brammer SANTA ROSA, CAL., SEPT. 29 Cheryl Vestal took two soil samples and called it a day, but then, so did Mark Smith and Dick Steinke. on the white plate list in District 36 short track. All riders in the top three positions extended their leads. Larry Drew won the 250 Expert final. Dennis Robinson tmished second to Pervier in the Main and holds his second place on the list with 93 points. Terry Otton finished third for a total of 83 points. The normally efficient show by the North Bay Motorcycle Club at the Chris Beck Arena ran an hour beyond curfew with 160 riders and the finale including Do it for me ... subscribe now! The ti tie in the Expert class ended in a tie between Terry Otton and Larry Drew. For the Junior class, Morris McCaslin, a parts man for Ostarello's Harley-Davidson dealership in Santa Rosa, had the championship locked up even before the final race. That's good, since he fen on the last lap of the 200 Junior tmal. Rod Bagget, who again had no trouble winning the 200 Novice final, gets the Novice championship. Delightful trophy girls were Kathy Holley and Pam Josephson. The first three places in the 360 Expert Main were the same from start to finish. Terry Otton, in third, was busy holding off Chris Hudson on the outside. Pervier had clear running in front. Dennis Robinson was in second without a chance to pass unless Pervier made a mistake. Robinson started from the pole bu t Pen-ier beat him through the first turn. In the 250 Expert class, Larry Drew held the lead with Tom Fleming, second, while Mike Faria passed Jim Perry for third. John Neuenburg ran away with the lead in the 250 Junior final. Likewise, Mike Fleming held a big lead in the 175 Novice tmal. Brian Pecore in the 125 Novice class and Pete McLaughlin in the 100 Novice class both repeated their previous race wins with first in their class. The track was in good shape but very little passing was possible with plenty of arguments over corner knock-downs and enforcement of safety rules. Macchiarella, who has had crashes and small mechanical problems keep him out of the winner's circle got it all together today for the win. Mark Peters, riding a Maico from Trophy Cycles, jumped jO the lead in the tll'st moto and held it to the end of the race. Macchiarella came in righ t behind him for second and Santa Cruz rider Rocky Pocock (CZ) took third. Moto two found MacchiarelIa pulling out in front and into the lead.
