Page 27 October 9,1973 useless effort to catch Weil and Wolsink. The Germans were running slow and just biding their time to the end of the moto but to the spectators in the stands it looked like Pierre, and Jim Pomeroy in fourth, were catching them. When Pierre momentarili killed his Yamaha and Jim slipped his Bultaco into third place and moved even closer to the Germans the crowd went wild. They began coming down ou t of the stands and lining the edge of the track to cheer Jim on and just get closer to the ·action. Most of the artificial dirt had been worn away on the flat turns of the track by now to expose the asphalt beneath it, and Jim and Pi~rre were putting on beau tiful full power slides on the asphalt as they tried to catch the Maicos. With two laps to go in the moto the spectators went totally beserk and ran out onto the track, some of them to get closer to the action, hut many to steal the course markers, banners and anything else associated with the race. Slower riders back in the pack were forced to stop in the wa,ke of people around them, but the battle up front had to continue at full speed to decide the win. Pierre ran off the track a number of times as he tried to dodge people. Gary Jones hit three. T dny Wynn centerpunched a kid who ran out in front of him, did an endo, and was hit from behind by another bike. As Tony pushed his crippled bike back to the pits a young kid ran up to tony.and asked him for his mouthguard as a souveqir. Light Brown said it would.be the last colesium race that riders would be forced to attend in order to gain' ~ necessary P?ints for a series. SUpport Class Rich Eierstedt put his factory Honda in the lead at. the start of the first moto and stayed there. Tom Rapp (Bul) had second pace taken care of until he landed off the ski jump and had his handlebar break off on the throttle side. Riding' around with one hand and using the other to work the throttle up against his hip Tom was able to finish as Ron Self (el) took second and Doug Grant (Bul) third. Moto two saw John Borg get the best of the start on the tight track ahead of Bryar Holcomb (Bul) and that's how they finished. Doug Grant was trying to give them a hard time until he unloaded and another set of handlebars got broken. Ron Pomeroy (Bul) pulled off third with Eierstedt fourth. The final race was by far the best with Eiresdedt getting away first but it only stayed that way for a lap when Rick spun out in the final high speed tUI11' before the front straight. Borg inherited the lead then only to have Hol'comb take it away on the next lap. . Bryar began pulling ..way from John and was looking good, only to sideswipe a hay bale and catch a foot peg 'which put his Bul into a slide and sent him over the Grand Tetons sideways. John Borg (Yam) took the moto and the overall win. • Results: 500 International: 1. Gerrit Wolslnk (Mal); 2. Adolf Well (Mal); ·3. Pierre Karsi'nakers Yam); 4. Tim Hart (Yam): 5. Jim Pomeroy Bul); 6.
