game. Last week's winner of the
Handicap Main, Mark Ch~rf, came out
on top again.
Mike Konle stole the show again but
it was one of those nigh ts that he would
just as well forget. In his first mishap he
went into a wheel stand and in true Big
Mike style hung on to it longafterany
other rider would have thrown it away.
This made for one of the funniest
get-offs that I have gotten a rhoto of
this year. As he stepped of he was
pulled through the air in a kneeling
position and came'to the ground in that
position. He slid to a stop, pic ked up
the bike and pushed it to the infield.
Then, if that was not enough to make
the fans pay attention to him, when he
came out for his next round, Old Dame
Misfortune rode again. This time, she
took on the disguise of a flat tire,
Anyone else would just have his tire go
flat, but not Big Mike. He blew it off
the rim, wrapped it up in the rear frame
and sprocket and brought himself to a
quick stop. This time he dragged the
bike off and stopped, so~ewhat
bewildered.
There wilI be a qualifying round at
Irwindale for the U.S. National Champ
to help 'pick the competition for the
upcoming event at the end of October.
