Some of the world's fastest horses were running at Colorado Springs' Pike's Peak Turf Club on July 8th.The race was the AMA National ChampionshipYamaha Gold Cup,128 furlongs (16 miles). The favorite wasYamaha, with Roberts aboard. But some racing experts pointed out that Mann looked good on Triumph, and Harley was at least a dark horse. When the dust settled,the scoreboard . proved the oddsmakers right.The winner wasYamaha, by two-and-a-half l~ngths. Yamaha rider Kenny Roberts stretched his AMA National point lead, and set a -new tr~ck record in the process. And as if that weren't enough,Yamaha won all the rest of the races on the sheet: Novice,Junior, and Trophy. When you think about it;it wasn't even a horserace. SomedaJ,you'll own aYamaha.
