(~ - Smith and Kalamaras Win Vallejo Scrambles By James Brammer VALLEJO, CAL., AUG. 17 Mark Smith fell in his heat but still won the 250 Expert class to further his point lead in District 36 scrambles at Vallejo Saturday nigh l. The spill occurred while he was leading and turned his head to check the competition behind with a quick corner coming up. He overran his line into the corner, taking him down in the loose stuff. Bill Bisel and Wade Boyd passed. Smith was up quickly and back in the race, finishing third, In the Main he ran well in the lead all the way. Winner, George Kalamaras mastered a big Triumph in the Open Expert class as if it were some pipey motocross bike, jerking it about through the tight corners and over the jump. Mike Faria and Allen Yarrow ran second and third in the wild final. Faria had won his heat by passing the Yarrow brothers. Rick Delacy had a run-away win in . his 250 Junior qualifying heat but he was defeated by perhaps the most consistent upstart around, Marlin Stewart, in the Main. _ Professionals were running the same night at Fremont, so Vallejo drew their greatest entry of sportsman riders this year.
