The report showed that the AMA is in a serious financial condition resulting from a lack of attention to income and an impruden t expansion of programs by the previous Executive Director, which were not made known to the Executive Committee in recent months. Acting Executive Director Ed Youngblood, who has assumed the staff leadership role, explained the program undertaken to ensure that the AMA '5 financial condition will return to its previous sound position. He states; "We will be curtailing some programs and reducing some of OUT involvement, but we will observe priorities under any circumstances. These priorities include selVices to our Class A members in regard to legislation, and the continued promotion of motorcycling as a national and world sport on both amateur and professional levels. Basically the purposes of this association have not changed, but we will be servin~ those purposes under closer controls. ' The members of the Association may note little chan~, bu t should be assured· that the present fmandal situation is being turned around, and that the acting Executive Director, with the fuU confidence of the Executive Committee, will maintain the AMA's position in the sport of motorcycling. • AME Muntz Motocross 125 Senior By Karl Drews MOORPARK, CAL., AUG. 26 Cloudy skies greeted fun seeking motocross fans to another AME sponsored event held at the brand new track in Muntz Cycle Park. The new track is about a mile in length and far superior to the old track which was kn own for its treacherous up-and-down hiUs and clouds of dust. Spectators can view practicaUy the whole· show from one sport and most of the dust is kept on the track not on the people. Riders had good visibility around the comers, as proven by riders who feU and came back around with out knobby prin ts on their bodies. In the first 125 Senior moto Greg Robertson got off to an early lead with Bob Bartlett, Jim Hale (Pen) and Gary Hu~r (Bul) on his tail. About half way through the moLo, Robertson fell and the trio slipped by. Robertson landed on the same knee that had caught a lal"ge rock thrown up by a knobby in practice; the faU did some more damage WORLD'S LARGEST SUBSCRIPTION G.P. 100% TROPHIES (DUCK,,'S) Limited Entries Starting Now Thru October 1, 1973 Starting in Signal Hil~California Gas Check in Atlanta, Georgia Finishat~~CENTRAL Entry: $8.00 Per Year (25 Issues) $14.00 For 2 Years, But ONLY $20.00 For Three Years. Bartlett and Huber were right behind. Hale began to open up his lead until his rear tire began to loose air. Bartlett caught him and was waiting for his chance to move, about this time Hale had to pass a slower rider and while . doing so slowed enough to let Bartlett get by. Bartlett led for the rest of the race and despite a soft tire and - a slipping clutch Hale stayed right with him. Going into the last lap Bartlett led Hale but due to a broken front hub. Bartlett couldn't get his binders to work well enough and he had to go wide on one of the last turns. Hale took the inside line and crossed the fmish line three bike lengths in fron t. The finish of this race brought the spectators to their feet waving the riders on with their multi-colored quebe-hats. With a hard tire and most of the heavy competition out, Hale led through.out the third moto, taking home the cookies for the 125 Senior event. Gary Huber's Bultaco took second over aU and Ken Elbers, riding a Husky, finished third. • P.O. BOX 13245, Dept.
