Long found some magical horsepower and when the Lightweight Combined was over privateer John Long had become the first Junior rider ever to win the even t since it was first '... in troduced. And what's even more mterestmg IS that it took Long only four laps to dispatch of some of. the .toughest competition on the ClTCUlt mcluding Team Yamaha, Team Kawasaki, and the strong private bikes of Team Vesco and Team Dirty. The new layout of the Pocono International Raceway track posed a lot of problems for the riders with the most important being gearing or more accurately - how to get through the infield and still be geared for the long, long back straigh t. The other problem was horsepower or the lack of it since all the bikes running are supposed 10 be "evenly matched". Everyone found just how evenly matched they were after the fint four quick laps of the race. John Long geared for the straights expecting the race to be won there and guessed righ t.
