The sections laid out for the Expert class at the latest Boiie Trials Club gig proved all of these truisms to be akin to aspirin commericals. Give me a nice mellow motocross any day! _ Held some 35 miles north of Boise in or near the scenic Payette National Forest, the trials embodied 12 sections ranging from super-simple to damn-difficult to immensely-impossible! In fac t, nearly every Expert took a five on the nrst section just to keep from tumbling down a nfty foot cliff and being killed! Several of the sections, which the Experts ran nve times each, were composed of near-vertical hills and slippery, pine needle-covered rocks. Fiascos were the order of the day and the average marks-Jost-per-section was a gross 1.5 for the winner, Danny Moore. Everyone else did much worse and slouchy riders they are not. The Beginner's sections were laid"out in the main meadow on Boise Mon tesa dealer/rider Chris Kerstein's mountain land. To keep things impartial, Terry Hartung took care of setting up the course and laid out some simple, yet ch allenging obstacles for the less. experienced riders. In the novice-type class there was the usual abundance of "wouJd-be-Micks" on sophisticated machinery and the ever-present enduro-san models. Age among the participants varied greatly and moms, dads and kids alike were aD seriously clambering about the bikes with elbows and rumps jutting and facial expressions to suit the contour of the terrain. The Expert impediments, however, weren'l quite so '''human drama" amusing as evidenced by many scrapes and bruises suffered in numerous spills. Even winner Danny Moore took his lumps with a get-off on section 11 of mud, pine needles, branches, a fallen tree and the ever-popular rocks. Speaking of Danny Moore, just give the Cota rider from Boil<: another year or so and see what jumps off! This event was Dan's first in an Expert status and many of those riders in the "can't trust 'em generation" just had to sit back and admire the plucky lad for beating them. These sections were about as frightening as most of the people had ever seen and one can only theorize that maybe Dan just isn't old enough to realize how freaky it is! A scenic departure from the scary Expert sections was the Powder Puff class. The triah-minded Moore family has daughter Joel1a tip-toeing through the sections in championship style aboard a Plonker·Mobile. Joanne Ke.rstein (they own the place...remember?) rides a Montesa just like the ones her old man seUs and probably makes a lot of men on stripped DT-l's wish they could clean those sections like sbe does .....bmmm..J wonder where 1 can buy one of them scooters?" These girls help provide some rme demonstrations of skill and add to that good family almosphere found at BTC's events. Family fun as portrayed on the tube might be sickeningly sweet most of the time bu I that corny term, "family almosphere," when combined with motorcycles of any type,. takes on a concept of genuine beauty. A concept far removed from uOzzie And Harriet" or uLassie". Trials people know where it's at! • RESULTS EXPERT DIV: 1. Dan Moore (Mon). 2. Terry t':~un~~~!.3i~~r~OO~~~k 2. Sun B~tcher.
