August 28,1973 Page 17 CRC'at Rawhide CH -PION MES FINISH By The Shadow ELSINORE, CAL., AUG. 12 The return of the California Racing Club to Rawhide Park, near Lake Elsinore, drew a moderate turnout in excess of 200 in the Santa Fe National riders. It was amazing that many people could find the place as, for some reason completely known to this writer, the park can't post a directional sign on the highway anymore. So, you certainly have to have a good compass - or ESP to find the place. A f02l(y day could be disastrous. • SECOND: • Don Castro Champion - Yamaha Bu t this writer never did hear a complaint of about track conditions, which has to be a record of some kind. The CRC does follow other races, and Racing Director Jack Barbacovi did happen upon tw_o "cherry pickers", who race as Intermediates at other parks and with other clubs, then come to the CRC and attempt. to ride as Novice competitors. The CRC is ready, willing and able to act on any legit complaint, written or not, about riders who drop down a class or two to compete for an easy trophy with the CRC. First a few words abou t the Intermediates and Experts, of which were were a batch. But it was just a bit confusing, as the combined 125 Intermediate and Expert class, followed by a wave of the combined Open Intermediate and Expert class raced in race number 10, while the combined 250 Intermediate-Expert class raced in race II. 'THIRD: Darryl Hurst Champion - Yamaha FIRST: Mike Gerald Champion - Yamaha In the 250 Expert event, it was Morgan Malocco, (Yam), all the way .. :even without second gear... winning by a gyand slam. Morgan really looked great all day. The 250 Intermediate race was really tight, with Rusty Carter (Suz), and Steve Roberts (Hon), all even at 70(}.all going into the • final moto, which Roberts won. This gave Steve a,narrow 100 point win over' Rusty, II 00-1000. The following MX and Flat Track models are available NOW! Yamaha, DT1, RTl; DT2, RT2:.. Second-placer Jeff Jarvi (Hon), opened with a win, and third-placer Roy Holsheirner (CZ), closed with a win - but Windsor had all the key poin ts. A failure to finish his first moto <:ost second.placer. Dan Clayton (Yam), a win at Open Begmner, as he lost ou t to a steady Harold Halldorson (Suz), by 200 points, despite finishing fll'st on his last two motos. Another member of the "Over·the·Hill Gang", George Sl>ellman (Suz), made his last Open Novice ride payoff, with a grand slam victory, while Robert W. Jones (Suz), was fairly convincing in winning the 250-Open Veteran even t, despite allowing Lou Mayers (Mon), who finished second, to win the first 'race. • Ken Roberts Champion - Yamaha First to race 10, where Jack Boles (Mnk) ruled the 125 Expert class, and Albert May grand-slammed the Open Experts on his Mako. Winner of the 125 Intermediate go-to was John Dickenson (Hon), while Craig Adams (Yam), looked very good in winning at Open Intermediate. The CRC scorekeepers deserve a medal for just keeping all four classes separate and scored properly. Victor Zyss (Hus), made mince-meat out of the 250 Beginner, Divison I class, winning with a grand slam, alth?uRh a solid second place went to Ray Topham (Hon). A little tighter at 250 Beginner, Division 2, but an elderly guy named Phil DeBlasio (CZ), fmally won the thing, after spotting second·placer Jerry , Marott (Yam), a first place on the first moto. Chuck Lanzarone (CZ), was the winner, hand..down, at 250 Beginner, under 16.
