Drew is right on top of that list and showed the reason why with an out-a-sight pass on Ray Huff, and old man of racing in these parts. Drew's Ossa is the hot se~-up for th is cushion, and he receIved a resounding cheer for his win. Pat DeBernardi did something that 'be hasn't done in some months. He won a race; the ·200 Junior over Skip Hathaway who just about owned the class. Pat 'had been off for awhile with an injury and just couldn't get it baek but did the job tOnight. . .. Coming up with bad signs m racmg IS easy. Take for instance the full moon. Tonight the mOon was full, and the Turloch Lake creW had all won their Heat races. The crew is Alan McGehee, 125 Novice, Billy Rose, also 125 Novice and Stan Slade 175 Novice. Now when these three all .rio, and the moon is full; thats a bad sign. In the 125 Novice Main Billy Rose came off second and was doing light well behind leader Ted Rouse, while AI McGehee was back about wt or so. Now it was AI'. birthday, and it just wasn't right for him not to do well. So, about half way through the Main, f'uth and sixth fen down, AI and another rider diced through the crash scene and AI was fifth. wen, it looked bad, as the crew triped down the back straight and the white was about to appear. So, Billy Rose, being the nice guy that he is. ~d seeing as how A! fen wt week i!"!"g him a trophy, took a soil sample, 8'vmg A! a fourth and a trophy for his birthday. Billy's comment after the race was, "We 're eveD." In the I 75 Novice Slade wasn't even close with Ronnie Beck beating out Jerry' Young for the win. ~lade received his just due when he finished only to find out' that the crew had left and gone . back to the lake. Randy Mamola is still the King of the mini's, with consistent wins in the l00cc minieycle class. His problems only occur when he falls in the other events. Jon Haan is .till Mr. Consistency, though, and the little guys • are still quite a sight to behold. JOrvV's Double at Lodi LODI, CAL, AUG. 10 Two Jorgensen boys were the top cats in the winners circle as the Lodi night season gets ready. to close down another ten rac~ senes. Alex the National Scrambles Champ, and yo.:n g brother Kim were winners all the way in the 650 Expert :md 500 Expert, respectively, For Alex It ~s ~ easy win, despite the loss of on~ n~er m a family bad accident neceSSlt~tmg a restart. Off the line a collision between Mike Sarandria and Brian 0 'Hagan caused a de~y, as both ride!" got pack traction over thein. Sarandia went to the hospital for a check-up, while O'Hagan restarted. Sarandria came out alrillb t but a might sore. From the restart it was another Alex show of style and grace, with a very commanding lead at the checkered. Riding his fathe.n ancient BSA that used to win just about all the ~ents here, the class "C" Novice is on his way to a great career in pro racing, if he can get some bikes to ride. . Brother Kim beat out John Hall m the 500 Expert Main after Ilay Huff feU off the pace with some problema. Huff's problems were minor, as he had just won the 250 Expert Main, beating out Kim in the process. The Kim and Ray show i. really great, as the 45 year old veteran really bas his handa full of the 16 year old newcomer, Ray is all smil~s about the competition, even though his emphysema keeps actin" up and making it difficult to do things like breathe. SweepiD:g both the .125 and 250 Junior Mams was Renn~g, Bruns, ~e Sacramento flash. This kid IS a dellllJte comer. A! Wood won the 125 NONce class and that im't strange except that AI is an Expert short tracker. B~cauae of the new point system separalJon of short track and scrambles, he keep. two sets of poin to and so.me of .th~ riders and associated folks can't figure It out. Coming on strong in the 100 Novice class is Denny Weidman. It seems that only a few short months ago he hadn't even won a trophy in two yean of racing. Now. aD of a sudden he is a winner and in more ways than one. The youo, lovely that fonows. ~ around now is a real fox,br something like that.. Tardiff Increases' J 0 Lead FREMONT, CAL., AUG. 8 San Francisco's Kirk Tardiff increased his lead for the top spot in the J 0 Series Short Track at Fremont Raceway, with yet , another win in the 250 Expert Main event. Unstopable Rick HoclUng won yet another 1160 Expert Main and came from seventh in the standings to a tie for third. With just three eventl left to run for the new set of Lancer leathen, the outcome could be a repeat of last yea~, with Hocking winning, but only. If Tardiff falls off the pace. The 250 c~s is where the points are and he seema Just as comfortable riding to the win as Hockin T...Jff,s win didn't start out so easily though, as Mike RenaI.ow got t!'e big jump at the green, WIth Tardiff second by scant inches over Steve Eklund. On the third go-round Eklund dropped off the slick goove, and Tardiff got a shot on the in.ide of Renalow to take command right up to the checkered. Ted Davidson took advantage of Eklund's mishap and took third, with Kelly Mcisaac beating ou t John Guglielmetti for the last trop~y. Hocking's win was only sligh.tly different in that, instead of commg from the back row, he started in the middle of the front. The race was over at the flash of the green, despite a hard charge by Fremont scrambles champ Jerry Kole. The style that Hocking shows amazes the crowd each week, as Rick seems ,to put something new into his act at each tum. Bob Metter brought his E.T. Cycle Ossa back to the quarter·mile .dirt ov~ and easily won the 250 JUDlor MaID over Gary Orlando and Mitch Perri John McRae is the new guy to beat in the 250 Novice class, as his brother Tom was in the Junior class. Tom has been falling lately while John just ""~.. to get faster. All that, and the class JUst seems to grow every week. Must be a lot of people that like short track. Brian Johnson went down to Pop Kenyon'. Honda shop on Tuesday, picked up a new 125 Elsinore, put K-70's on it with a set of Flanden ban . and flat put it on the 125 Novices. The low end is flat for small traeka, but for • this full size one it is near hard to believe how wen it nJDL • Bri8n O'Hagan flips the switch. ~
