AUG. 19 The Prospectors and the Rams enjoyed dandy desert weather today for their twin sand scrambles, and the enjoyment was surely shared by Mitch Mayes and Larry Roeseler, who each collected class wins in both events. LarTo/ Pfutzenreuter took a second in the first and a first in the second, while the Brooks boys split wins with Cordis taking the Division II lightweight win in the Prospectors' round and Tom doing' the same in the Rams' race. Tom Poteet (Bul) returned to fonn with a victory in the first lightweight contest. Tom suffered a nasty unloading at high speed awhile back, and he now prefers the advantage of pre-race practice that's part of the European style events. "When I know where I'm going, I really enjoy going fast," he said. He was leading in the second race until he spilled. Mitch Mayesjust wentmilthty fast and rode smoothly to win both heavy weigh t Open Expert events, and he had to because A. C. Bakken (Hus) and Bryan Brecker (Bun were also flyinll in fine Larry Roeseler took double wim in 100 Expert claSs. The flag; always a welcome sight. style. They finished second and third respectively in ·the Prospectors' go, and Brecker took second in front of Jack Knebel in the second can test. While the Brooks brothers each got a win, each experienced SOJ1)e problems in the events they didn't win. Tom broke in the first race, which his brother won, and Cordis returned the favor by breaking in the second one. Larry Roeseler (H-D) again displayed some excellen t riding to win over second and third placers Chris Webber and Mike Cartledge in both races. I t must make someone in Milwaukee proud to see that little Baja out ahead of a Pen ton and a Hodaka. Another double winner today was Gary Davies (Yam), who logged two wins in the heavyweight Novice class. It was just a fine day in th.e desert, with moderate temperatures and even a cooling breeze to make it downright comfortable. Both clubs offered circuits combining plen ty of high speed sections with challenging up-and-downhill rocky parts to keep everyone honest. A good time was had by most folks, and amongthem were a number of Rim Runners who were quite happy with the amount of gold they collected. • SALE On all cycle boots Up to $70 Value '$38.95 childrens Sizes $29.95 NOT Seconds Most Major Name Brands Georgia Giant only .. $23.95 Harness Boots $1 7.95 Acme or Durango Cowboy Boots $17 .95 Hercules, Chippewa.
