Mini National Cha~pion con't. from page 7 area. Most of the riders were on their own, and perhaps the fathers realize that it isn't necessary to give rast minute shouted in§tructions on the starting line in order for their boy (or girl) to win races. Pit racing was nil. NMA officials warned at the stan of the event that riders would be disqualified and enumerated the offences which are considred pit-racing, so there was no question in the rider's minds. The races knew that nobody was going to come up and warn them so they had a second ehance; they just had their numbers taken and their names crossed off the results sheets. Consequently, although there was considerable traffic with riders going to and from events, chasing parts and visiting friends, it was all moving at a reasonable, safe speed, and parents with smaller children dido't have to leave them locked in the camper all weekend to avoid their being run over. Tuning was a problem, because there was no place except on the trac k where a rider could test his bike. Although this is not a problem exclusive to minicycles, perhaps for future events there can be a controlled test strip where a rider can get out and really lean on the bike to see what happens on top end. As with all races, there were a few protests; displacemenp were questioned and there was some skepticism over whether "stock" bikes were actually stock. At press time we still do not have official results, although they should be available for next week. NMA and Saddleback park deserve congratulations for the smooth running even t, and riders and their paren ts of course share the honor as their cooperation was necessary. We hope to see a lot more of the NMA in the fu ture, if they work as hard on all their events as they did on this one. • '" • MOST CHAMPIONS DEPEND ON ---l I "THE MATCHED SET' '" '"i c M .... ~ « " ~ •..
