Darryl Hurst picked up his place in the final by winning'his heat over Corky Keener and made it a full hour for the southern electric riders - Gerald and Hurst. Gary Nixon's Bultaco just didn't have it; Moe Frasher fractured his ankle; the times on Ed Salley and Jack Hendler got switched and Hendler got lapped badly in his heat; and the track began to get pretty rough.
