KANSAS
INTER-AMA
by Richard Creed
LAWRENCE, KANSAS, July 15 - The
third round of the Inter-AMA
motocross circus staked its tent on the
great plains of Kansas this weekend and
played to a near capacity crowd at
beautiful Baldwin Motocross Park;
thirty-nine miles west of Kansas City,
Missouri.
As usual, Pierre Karsmakers took the
overall win, but this time he had to fight
for it. Literally. Following a heat clash
in the first mota, Karsmakers and CZ
rider Antonin Baborovsky, had an
equally heated confrontation at the
finish line that soon turned into an all
out fist fight. Race officials and flagmen
quickly separated them but not before
Antonin Baboro....ky (91 and Pierre Karsmakers (31 did some serious mixing. Pierre won without winning.
Pierre had scored a solid jaw bruiser on
AntonID. Pierre claimed the CZ team of
Baborovsky and J aroslav F al ta had
blocked him, knocked him off berms,
and tried to stuff him (Pierre) into the
snow fence surrounding the course.
When everyone had cooled down, the
CZ team was warned that further
unsportsmanlike conduct would resul t
in being black flagged.
Karsmakers won the overall points
and coins but failed to win a mota, as
Baborovsky took the squeaker first
mota and Marty Tripes hurtled his
Honda to a second mota win over
Husky ace Heikki Mikkola. The first
place batdes in the 250 class were the
day's highlights, as the 500 Support
class Was dominated by Mike Hartwig of
the Husky team with almost boring
ease_
