She was reported to have leg injuries. Too bad, too. She led her heat race from beginning to end, and was moving up on the leaders, Muriel Palmer (Man) and Debbie Axelson (BuI) when she wen t down. Tbe race was called a dead heat, because it had to be stopped. Both leaders were close. judy Sternberg (Bul) was second. Those minibikers really put on a show. The little guys have gotten a lot of guts in the, past couple of years. They are being clocked in the 23 second bracket. . Eight year. old, Bryan McDowell (Yam) really steals the show. He's one of the smallest ones out there. After winning his heat race in the Mini juniors, he went on to battle it out with Robert Schronrock (Han) in the Main Event. Robert was first into the tum, but Bryan passed him before they came out of it and kept the lead until lap five when Robert got him and stayed ahead until the last lap. but Bryan rode across the line firs t. Matt Coleman (Yam) got his revenge in the 100cc Main Event. Danny Villopoto (Hod) had beaten him in the heat and the trophy dash, after Matt pushed him hard for the win. Then in the Main, Danny led all the way until the last tum before the checkered when Matt made it around him and won by only inches. by Sue Bailey Photo by Mike Jessie REDWOOD ACRES, ORE., july 4 Five Stock Cars showed up to compete for fast time with the motorcycles at the Flat Track race here at Redwood Acres on july 4th. Stock Cars beat out the bikes this year with a 20.900 seconds around the 3/8 mile oval. jim Walker, SRRA Track Champion posted the time. The closest motorcycle time was Ray Beck, with 21.458. Beck had beat the stock cars in 1971 time trials, the first one of its kind here in Eureka. The entire. day found Beck and Storme Winter battling it, out in each event they were in. Pat Richter (CZ) pulled off the line Iltst in the 251·0ver Expert Heat, but not for long. Beck (750 . Nonon) passed him coming around to the front straight, and just as he tool< over the lead, Win ter moved in bl'tween Beck and Richter and maintained his lead to the finish. They were all three close into the first tum of the Trophy Dash, but Beck took the lead, then Winter (750 H.D) did it again. He won the tropfly. Winter wasn't able to enter the Main, after breaking in the Cars vs. Bikes Time Trials. Ray Beck led from the line, but lost it all when he rode into the pits with bike problems. Clarence Oliver (650 Yam) took home the trophy and the $15 in prize money. Pat Rich ter (400 CZ) was second. Beck lost out in the Main in the big bikes, but not so on his 250cc Kawasaki. He won his beat, trophy 10, "Handling your bike correctly is just as important as horsepow~r. Your front forks need the right viscosity of fork oil.
