Marcia Hollev was powder puffer winner and got a special surprisa.
never quite got close enough to smell
the leader's hot exhaust fumes. John
Rice matched Tom Brooks' frustration
for the weekend, starting off about as
close to last as you can get on a 400 CZ,
then riding a beautiful charge for two
hours to get back in with his nonnal
competition.
The shy Brecker and his throaty Bul
had a crowd of admirers waiting for him
at the fmish. When Bryan had pushed
on to the pits, John McCown motored
in with Kookie's to,ngue washing the
crossbar. After finishing a second time
(movie realism), John's tank rider was
awarded a "doggie" bag contingency for
his ·'Ieathers."
The course was smooth enough for

seven and a half minutes, and
uncomplicated enough for an
honest-to-goodness Novice (first race
ever) on a l25 Honda to make it in 15
minutes, but the tired and dirty faces on
the 12-minute lap timers was enough to
convince the most dubious skeptic that
the Viewfinders had prepared a fair
challenge for the rough-roaders. The last
half of the course required a entirely
different riding pattern 'Sunday
afternoon than it did early Saturday
morning, as Elliott's Open Amateur
Maico proved when it fmally stopped
crushing river rock on the long straigh t.
One thing for sure, you never got bored
with the terrain.

And, A.C. Bakken ran strong but didn't quite match the fleet Brecker.
