BORE W ...J U >- U The Great Cycle News Boot Test revisited ••• wherein uFull Bore" cleans up their ad and why by John Huetter Probably more f'ull Bore motocross and enduro boots are sold in the UrLited States than any other single brand. And yet, historically, there's a lot that hasn't been all that great about them. 1n the recent Cycle News boot test, major criticisms focused On l;>uckJes (two cent ite= on $60 boots), their stiffness and relative weight. The buckles have proved such an aggravation that those alone have driven more than one staffer to another brand, including surplus store lace-ups. They were difficuJ t to fasten (I've seen at least two riders having to use pliers to get them fastened.), they were cheap and bent OT broke easily, and when covered with mud or grit were almost ilJlpossibJe to get off your foot without twisting lhem out of shape. In short, an unnecesary bummer. Knocking about the. Grand Prix circuits and a recent visit to the manufacturer of Full Bores in Treviso, Italy, was gratifying in that, at least, it revealed that they've replaced the dime s tore straps and buckJes with a BRAD LACKEV- ARST AMERICAN CARLSBAD GRAND PRIX - JUNE 24 Impac leuers are tough! They..haue to be to take the punishment of international motocross competition. That:, why 8 rad chose IMPA C for the Inter·AMA, Trans-AMA, Nationals and World Grand Prix series. When quality is indispensable, use the best - IMPAC. clamp-down faste.ner much like that on most motorcycle tie-down straps. This is combined with a detent to make them dam near mudproof. Plus it doesn't cost two broken fingernails and a bruised thumb to get the boots on and off. Thjs relatively simple change has made these boots a lot easier to live with. It is common folk humor around motocross and scrambles tracks that "By the time Full Bores are broken in, they're worn out." Yet that same stiffness and inllexibili ty is the main reason behind the booLS' sales success: they really do protect your foot. The leather used in Full Bores is only from the back of the cow. That means it's thick and thai means iI doesn't bend. 11 (714) 894-2623 IF YOU FALL AND BREAK A LEVER, JUST REMEMBER IT WASNT OURS.
