., f ... ... .... CD > :; .., ~ w Z W ...J t) >t) EXPLANATIONS. COBRECTIONS. AND A POINTING FINGER There I was, cursing and screaming at my completely disassembled crash-damaged Honda CB500 engine in a fit of frustration, when along comes my mailman with Cycle News. ALIA! Though t I. time for some relaxing reading. BUT ALA! Errors and accusations! Curses! %St-&Ol Cycle ews! %$t-&Ol Bike!! Please, Papa, print this pass·the.buck (but honest) answer. A To Bob Daniels of acramento.. John Ulrich did not write the headling "Is Cranston Out To Get You". However, if one reads paragraph 7 of 63. Cranston's desert bill, and then the interview, one wonders if perhaps the I}eadline is correct. Not being a legislative whiz kid, I decline judgement on that one, but Russ anford says... B. To the MIC ... talk to Mike Lemov of Congressman John Moss's Washington office. Even if the MIC did talk to them, why does HRIO read the way it does as of last week? Under the provisions bikers would get screwed and you either do, or should, know it. And that doesn't let off MORE and AMA, both of whom claim to be saving motorcycling. All I said was that they (Moss and company) badly wanted bike groups to testify. If the MIC was doing enough, why did Lemov tell me that? C. To Papa & company ... paragraph two of The ierra Club pan I: reference to Congressman Penis should have read "Pettis pointed out that being a biker and desert lover are not INcompatible." Thank you for your space, amigos. JOHN D. ULRlCH Voices They slopped us all from riding \ 1 of the I West I GOING FOR 80 THERE GOES SUGARMAN I'd like to thank AME for the neatest 40th birthday any powder puff ever had. The encouragement and shouts of "Come on, Mom" from the AME people at Indian Dunes on June 10th "made" my day, not to mention the kind words from the masculine old·timers on the line wi th me. If I'm still able to pu tt the course on my 80th bjrthday, my prized possession will be the inscription on my trophy, proclaimjng me the "First Old·Timer Powder Puff." Bless you, AME. SUZI HALLMARK End Does M.C. I recently saw the spread in 6/10 L.A. Times Home magazine on Burt Sugarman ... tycoon, entrepreneur, producer and, among other things, a Yamaha dealership in Hollywood. Lotsa d~~gh, cars, pads, broads, charter jets, skimg and even trail riding. Nothing wrong with that sportsfans...it should happen to all of us. Returning from work the other day and happened by Sugarman Yamaha. Incredible! I. .. the place all but vanished. at a bike on the floor, not a sign on the bui Iding... NOTHING. Curiosity prompts me to ask 'wha happened?' Gee, maybe the bike business is something you get in and out of fast. MELYIN HAPIRO Burbank, Calj£. The Yamaha dealership was not such a high "DESERT BLUES" The day of our rejoicing gone, Old timers hear my cry. The narrow minded cranks have won, Desert riding is no more. o more we'll load the dear old van with bikes and gas and oil. profit operltion as some of 8urt's other enterprises, and he evidently lost interest. You1c:now how it is when you're busy ... Ed. A few short yean ago. Our spirits were dejected It was an awful blow. But now we're up against it. As many of us know. We're daily talking to ourselves And walking to and fro I'd tell you what I'd Ijke to do. With some rules so detested, But if I djd, they might get sore, Aod bave us all arresled. ED HELLY TELL ME Wilmington. CaHf. Will there be any Trans·Al\1A or world championship races at SaddJeback? Ifso. when? Could you teU me the address of the Pasadena Motorcycle Club. And what is happening at Red Rock about the riding problem? K. WILLIAMS Pasadena. Calif. Saddleback's Trans·AMA runs in the fall. PMC is at 21 E. Howard, Pasadena, Ca. Nothing new at Red Rock... Ed. ZOO On page 25 of your newspaper dated June 19, 1973 (Volume X Number 23) your MX Zebra? is actually (according to your drawing) an MX Giraffe. Whoever drew it should take' a trip to the zoo. Where's MX Koala Bear? PAUL PlERANGELO Bonita, Calif. We were going to have an MX K~la Bear, but we can't figure out how to draw an all·white bear... Ed. THERESA Read in your last issue Theresa Martin retired from radng Speedway. J'vt' been wanting to come out and watch her race after reading your great arucle on her. I now hear she is road racing. Any chance of finding out where? PAT TOMA Los Angeles, Calif. . M~ybe on 3 mOYie set.
