A bike rider from the Division of
Highways gave us a ring to tell us about
. a little problem concerning both you
and them It is illegal to pu trace
markers within 100 feet of the center
line of the road way. So far, he told us,
they have been trying to ignore the signs
placed on separate poles, but they are
forcee to remove them from public
highway signs. So, if you keep your
markirfgs off well to the side and on
your own poles, they'll be a lot more
likely to still be there on race day.

u.s. Suzuki recently sold a little 100
they had been playing with in the shop.
Nothing too unusual in that, but It
seems that this little 100 had a funny
little threaded hole/mounting on the
head pipe that looked strangely like a
miniature spark plug hole. The "spark
plug" that someone had been sticking In
that hole Is an afterburner to cut down
on 2-stroke emissions, and Suzuki sold
the test bed bike before. the EPA
dropped its recent anti-2-stroke
bombshell proposals for cleaner air.
Look for the little goody on new
Suzukis sometime before May 1, 1974.

Sweden's Rolf Tibblin, the only
motocross rider ever to capture the
World Championship in both 250 and
500cc classes, was at the United States
"Hang Ten" Grand Prix fulfilling a
unique role with a unique machine. Rolf
acted as travelling marshal, lapping the
track between races to check it's
condition for the next heal. And Rolf,
who has twice won the Mint 400 and
the Baja 1000 marathon since his
retirement from Hactive" motocross in
1966 was riding the same four-stroke
machine ever to take a World
Championship and Tibblin's personal
bike is the only example of this model
in the en tire USA. Tibblin now runs a
permanen t training cen ter for young
motocross riders, based at Carlsbad
Raceway. Run in conjunction with the
Husqvama factory (for who Tibblin
rode throughout his career) the center
concentrates on both riding skills and
the ph ysical shapiJ:Ig th at is so necessary
to a profess.ional motocross racer.

You can tell that Summer Is at hand
when they require spark arrestors at
Saddleback. They will, effective July 1.
This is a Forest Service ruling. A racer,
if confined to the MX course and pits
doesn't need one.
