I f any American riders are going to challenge the European heroes, Roger DeCoster and Ake Jonsson, (pictured opposite) they are probably going to be one of those pictured on these pages. Jim Weinert was the only Yank to share the . victory podium with Ake and Roger in 1972. He is probably closest to Lackey (plus or minus) in talent and consistency; picked up a Kawasaki factory ride for 1973 after making his in roads on Yamaha the past two years. Definitely a world-elass rider. - Richard Billie Clements is not panicularly fast or e.)~ecially spectacular but has shown the concentration and calculated endurance to ride two 45-minute motos. He did get a Grand Prix point last year in his second GP under miserable riding conditions. He is more a "European" style rider, but it's hard to explan why we think he's good underprer.sure.
