VISALIA, CAL., Nov. 19, 1972
Despite several days of rain prior to the
Mid-Valley MIG's premier event. this
new lub still managed to stage their
first scrambles race by moving literally
tons of earth off the normal track
surface to get down to some reasonably
dry dirt. Although some grumbling was
heard from a few of the riders, all in all
it was an admirable job well done, under
very adverse circumstances. Jimmy
Mcintyre found the quick way around
the track in the 55 junior-Expert and
this junior class rider led to the flag,
ahead of Expert Ricky Pearce and
junior David Yeargan.
Dale jones wasn't to be denied in the
100 Novice and was chased, at some
distance, by Paul Falvey and Fred
Arenas. Roy Sharp picked up the first
of his two wins today in the 100 junior.
The 125 Novice was all Richard
Villanueva from start to finish. jim
Conway showed the 125 juniors the
swift way to the checkered. Don
Andrealla made one of his infrequent
appearances on the scrambles scene and
made it very worthwhile, smoking home
the winner of the 100-125 Expert ahead
of Doug Garrison.
In the 200 Novice it was Greg Pitts
first under the checkers in fron t of
Darrell Winter. After chasing Roy Sharp
home in the 100 junior, Randy Talley
just wasn't to be denied in the 200
junior and bree""d home' the winner
ahead of heat winner Bryan Rains. Doug
Garrison, who not too long ago was
transferred to Expert, showed just how
well he has made the adjustment by
winning the 200 Expert in a most
convincing fashion ahead of jim
McAleer and Dave Baker.
jerry Crabtree came home the
winner in the 250 Novice, well ahead of
joe Miller after a several lap battle for
the lead. Roy Sharp got his second win
of the day in the 250 junior, finishing
in front of Mark Tracy and Augie Alves,
who has just moved up from the 200
class. Randy Griffith came from behind
to pick up a long overdue win in the
250 Expert, followed by Ric Armitage
The 250 Experts. Ric Armitage leads Jack Jones (9A), Mart Staab (14R). Tommy Francisco (14). and Wayne Howard (Brand X).
and 'Dandy Don' Warren. john Albe got

500 Novice, chased by Larry Emerson
and Berwyn Qualls. ~lark Tracy received
his new junior card today, bul didn't leI
the higher class intimidate him in the
least as he won the 500 and Open
junior class quite handily from Dennis
Moore and Rick Zimmerman. Sparkie
Edmonston gol probably the besl start
of his life in the Open Expert and led
from wire to wire on his johnny's ~I/C
Co. Beezumph, chased at some distance
by new I-1eavyweigh t Champion Lyle

SOUTH GATE, CAL., Nov. 23, 1972 Some say that pace makes the race, and
it was surely all pace all. the part of Tom
Doty (Hon) who slickered the 125
slarting field of eigh teen riders on the
~IT course by stealing an easy victory
after taking the lead from early leader,
Steve Okuda (Kaw), on the seventeenth
lap. From this point on, Daly JUSI
settled himself to selling a pace that left
him plenty of rOOm between the rear of
his bike and the field until he started to
lap Il,e field as early as lhe 22nd lap.
For the next 28 laps, Doty handled the
field much to his liking as he lapped all,
but second place Elberl Tumer (Yam).
Jamey Blunt, an up-and-coming rider
for big·lime racing, was taken to
Downey Community lIospital with
what appeared at trackside as a
concussion of the head. On lap 43,
Blunt spilled aftei leaving the main
course. One of the riders may nave hit
Blunt.
While
Doty breezed to a
commanding lead over the t1eld, Okuda
continued to drop back allhough still

a frozen engine. Turner, always in sight
of Doty about a quarter of a lap back,
picked up the pace mid-way in the race,
and by lap 30, looked like a solid
contender for a late surge.
Gary Wells (Bul) the sensalional
high-jumping youngster from Phoenix,
Arizona, made a return appearance a
winning one by making short work in
defeating Rick Goade (Bul), Allen Swett
(II on), Mark Palmer (B ul), and Roy
Weisberg (Ossa), in the 250 Tr Main.
Goade, taking lhe lead from Wells in
the second lap, won the 250 F.T.
fealure over Swett, and Weisberg. Wells
was unable to finish as he headed for
the pits on lap six with an engine Il,at
started to freeze. Palmer, holding third
as he crossed the white flag, spilled in
the first corner, but was not injured.
Turner, a rider you arc sure to hear a
lot from in the coming season. went
wire·to·wire in winning the 125 F.T.
Main. J\like Mining (Hod) finished
second ahead of ~Ionte Ashmore (Kaw).
Trojan Speedway management has
reponed that regular racing programs
will be held every Thursday night
through the winter months due to the
in tenen of many of e riders local and
out·of·town.
