enough. In time, perhaps... Rich Eierstedt was very consisten t on his American Motocross-sponsored Maico and got a well-deserved second overall. He led the first moto for some time before being overtaken by Staten and was fourth in the second. Staten's Chenda-turned CZ from Triumph-Suzuki of Pomona went all the way in both motos for the first time and a first overall. The younger Grossi, Bill, flashed in the second moto with a second to compliment his fifth in the first. The total was good enough to give a third overall. Brother Bob took seventh overall, enough better than Lamppu's fourteen th to give him the win in the 250 Support class for the TransAMA series. ~ o rn :;: w Z W ...J U >- U SIDE HACKS The sidehackers came ou! for their last appearance of the year and put on their usual dynamite show. It was easy to see that they have been .running for some time on a limited budget as the mechani aJ breakdowns were numerous. S till, the hackers managed to draw more o-o-o-os and ah-h-h-hs than anything except the outhouses at Saddleback. Runaway winners were Lorenz and Samuel Haller on their Honda 750 rig. Their Honda had just enough engine left to finish two molOS but not necessarily' The World Champion temporarily ahead of the World Champion. Joel Robert (15) and Roger Decoster dicing on their Suzukis. ... As Ake Jonsson Caps His Series with Vidor, Persistence paid off for Rex Staten as he won both 250 Suppon motos. First time in a month he hasn') DNF'd a moto. the victory lap. They were pursued madly by many failing rigs. Most seemed to have been run a little too long and a little too hard to get through the final Saddleback race. For many of the spectators, the sidecars were probably the high point of the day. Wasp sidecars going down "Banzai Hill" side by side are quite a sight. They all seemed 10 have quite a good time, though, and when breakdowns brought an end to their ride they sat by the track and waved at the crowd. Marty Tripes (CZI went to work and took sixth overall, displacing Brad as top Yank. The Haller Bros. Honda Wasp won the "exhibition" again, as it had at Carnegie. The sidehacks come hurtling over and down fabled "Banzai Hill" on the Saddlebaek International course.
