W.S.M. perservered and managed to whip (he track into shape in time to host another Junior-Intermediate motocross event at Muntz Cycle Park today. The track, itself, had been changed· by the promoters so much in lhe past weeks thal it bears Iiltle resemblance to the Muntz course of a month ago ...all, I may add, to the be lter. With no one having 'wired the track', the 125 J r-I n t class again presen ted possibly the fiercest competition of the day. In the first moto, a pair of sponsored riders, Skip Reuter (DKW),. Indian Dunes MX _ from Camarillo Competition Cycles, and :--lark l\lilfor~ (Yam), out of Yamaha of Thousand Oaks broke into the 1-2 spots and stayed there for almost the duration of the race. Then, wilh two laps to go. Elliolt Brainard (DKW), who had crashes earlier, began pushing his way La the front. In short order, he zapped Milford and moved up to begin challenging Reuter. The checkered cut his bid short, though, and they finished in that order. The second go, therefore, was solely the property of Brainard. lie built up a huge lead. Going into the last round, Reuter and Brainard were tied for first and in true story-book fashion, they were first out of the first comer. Brainard kept Off to the wars. Reuter at bay until the end. and to k home first place gold. The 250's quickly took on the look of a "crash-o-rama", so Chris Forbes (Mai) took the overall by sheer consistency. In the first race. he and Intermediate John Costahaude soon began dicing it out, but Costahaude soon crashed and finished fifteenth.
