Weather plus track conditions made it great. Gary Evans, a 16-year old Novice, came out as King for the Day with the coveted number one plate for 1973. Congrats! Gary for a display of good racing and good sportsmanship all year. Much secrecy surrounds the track as the awards and Jrophies are being selected for the H.R.A. banquet. The most talked about trophy being the "Bitchers Award". Amongst the nominees are Charlie Morland and Scott Walker although I hear there is quite a list being considered. The 100 Nov. got the races under way with a newcomer, Ri-ck Naymola (Yam). dominating the Tr race. Chris Morland (Kaw) took a hard riding second. In the lIalf-mile, it was our gal rider Toby Sweaney (Kaw) showing the Mike Hannon IKI and Bob Sanders battled two-strokes against four and 350 Bul vs 750 Norton in the Open Expert TT at Adelanto. The rider who will carry the H RA N umber One plate in 1973 is young Gary Evans. boys how it's done by grabbing the brass. Steve.F0rtune (Yam) doubled in the 125 Novice. class with Bob Gregor (Yam) glVlng It all he had for second in both. . It was a light pack off the line in the 25~ Novice with Dan McWharter (Oss) takmg. the lead. There was plenty of wild ndmg back in the pack but Dan rode it calmly all the way home. Bob Cregor (Yam) grabbed the lead in the Ilalf-mtle. After a battle with Rich Barnes (Yam) he came- out the victor with Rich taking second. In the Open Novice, it was Jeff Zwaster (Tn) and Dan Rees (Bul) on a brand new 350 Pursang job, Jeff came out first with Dan second. The Half.mile was a repeat. The Experts were out in full force with Rip Sweaney (Kaw) off the line first in the 100 TT. He ran into bike trouble and Brian Haycock took it the rest ot the way. Steve Sisco came on strong but had to settle for second. In the lIalf-mile it was Vince Mead (Kaw) with Rip Sweaney (Kaw) back in for second. In the 125 Experts, it was Dave Reese (Yam), Steve Okuda (Yam) and Earl Roloff (Yam) fightin' it out. Dave Reese came out on top in the TT. In the Half·mile, it was Earl Roloff (Yam) doing his thing (winning, that is). Earl. riding two classes, really made a haul to-dav. The race was between MJke Hannon (Bul) and Bobby Sanders (Nor) for second. Mike really gave Bobby. a work out as Bobby took on some blzarr~ forros to get second.
