M It> "' 2 0- N .... '" ,; o Z (J] i: w z W ..J U >- U ~~._-- :" ,. The charge to the bomb with that familiar face out front, Tom Brooks (DKW). Unfortunately. he managed to get off vigorousiy. Jack Dailey (Hod) was first Trail Amateur. and the only traiJbike I saw for a long, long stretch in there. Pretty ro ugh going for you fells? Neil Christman (Puc) got across for first in Division 1\ Lightweight Amateur class, and Ch ris Bengtsson on a Monark was first 125 Novice. Joy Malis, the pretty, petite ballet teacher, was first girl today on her Rickman Hodaka. She summed up what all the guys had been saying when she pulled up to the finish line, grinning, "Hey, that was really neat.' That was one of the funnest courses all year." I suppose somewhere in this story should be mentioned that Larry Pfutzcnreuter, sporting a new DiffBrake on his 250 Bultaco, was first overall. If Pfutz can win his class in every race for the rest of the year he can keep his number one ligh tweigh t plate away from Fishback. Incidentally, Jim Fishback got off hard on the way to the bomb. got on again. and was too dizzy to hang on to it, crashed again; started again and rmally had the good sense to quit before he broke something. For winning overall, So Cal MC presented Pfutz with a bottle <)f Wild Turkey and gave him, along with the rest of the class winners, a chance to win a live .turkey. (This is the Turkey Run, remember?) All they had to do was catch them. The trouble started when So Cal decided to give the girls a ten yard head start in the foot race. Pfutz planted himseIr on the girl's line and said "You want equal rights? I'll give you equal rights." But he couldn't hold a straight face and once he started cracking up he was easy to shove back to the guy's starting line. With ber head start, Joy was able to capture one of the birds, and Larry. coming from behind. managed to grab one of the turkeys. Don Grieve got off at the road crossing and knocked him se If silly. Nobody was really sure exactly how one gets a live turkey home from the . desert, except Joy, who found a gunnysack. And those who did manage to get them home are going to have a hard time keeping the kids from making a pel of it before dinner time on Thursday. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. ~ee va' at the finish line in Las Vegas. Pretty foxy form for a little scooter way out in the middle of the desert. Ooomph. Well, I know which line not to take.
