o l N .... en .~ W Z w ~ U > U Rick Ricker in the 100 Beginners class. CRC Arroyo by The hadow DEVORE, CAL., Oct. 28, 1972 Getting a head start on Halloween, motocross enthusiasts got their kicks at Arroyo Cycle Park today, as the CRC held another of its regular Saturday motocross races. The Shadow gets to spread a little good news by way of this story. I'm pleased to tell Bob Spaulding (Yam) that he tied Brian Bogdanich (Suz) for second place in the 100 Beginners, _ under i6 class. Yes sir, Bob, you have a trophy coming next time you get to a ORC event. The winner of the 100 Beginners under 16 class was Craig Stevens (Yam). Bill Spaulding (Yam) took a second place in .the 100 Beginners class, behind Terry Heald. Kurt Sofka, last week's second placer was down to third place in the 125 Beginners (whatever happened to Kurt, Jr.?). The 1255 play drive·around-the-tires. CRC Saddleback------by The Shadow IRVINE, CAL., Oct. 29, 1972 - First, the Open Veterans class where Chris Hicks, doing his best to be just like "Ironman Richard Padgett", succeeded SUPER TRICK PARTS FOR YAMAHA BY NOGUCHI .• * ROAD RACING * SHORT TRACK * MOTOCROSS 100cc Stage I Kit complete with down pipe . 50% HP Increase $210.00 Plus many, many more special items for Yamaha MX models and Yamaha road racers 90/100cc Stage II Kit complete with down pipe . 70% HP Increase., .. 5250.00 DEALER INQUIRIES INVITED 125cc Stage I Kit complete with down pipe..... 45% HP Increase, ..$210.00 with up pipe $220.00 125cc Stage II Kit compfete with with down pipe . 55% HP Increase $260~00 with up pipe $270.00 CYCLE TREND WEST INC~ P.O. With his leg resembling a watermelon (swelling and all), Hicks strapped on his boots and stating, "If Padgett can do it, so can I," rode. in all three motos. The senior statesman of the CRC Vets won his class, _bad leg and all defeating, among others, his buddy Gary Schooley. At least I think they're still buddies. I mean, letting "Crip" Hicks beat you Gary, bad leg and all. I'm not really sure just who is the elder statesman now. The other Veterans classes were won by Lou Mayers (Mon) and Art Meyer (Yam) . And how 'bout those old timers. A great turnout of 31 showed up, with Jesse Goldberg (Mai), a winner in the Senior class, Francis Christensen (Mai) a winner at Intermediates, and Larry Escamilla (CZ) taking the Novice event. Of course there was the Old Timer who experienced a little difficulty with his heart during the race. Refusing to recognize his pained heart, the brain kept the guy at the race - thanks to a little help. frqm the Orange County California Division of Forestry rescue unit, which is stationed righ t across the street from Saddleback. Padgett, you don't know what you've started. Thanks to your Hlronman" image, nobody wants to quit racing - no matter how serious the injury is. Tracy Freeland (Yam) and Richee Collins (Yam) went at it again at 100 Novice, under 16, with Freeland again the winner. Both kids, Freland is 15 and Collins 13, are great riders, but the edge in competition still goes to Freeland at least so far. Collins' brother, Davee (Hon), placed second in the Minibike class. First place went to Bruce Ziegler nnd). Randy Hoff (CZ) took the 250 Novice class (with a little push from Fulton Tidwell (CZ), while the 250 Beginners, Division 1 race wen t to Smilin' Kevin Cowles (Yam). Rilly Barkfeather (Yam) - that's right fans, Billy (he signed his name that way) Barkfeather captU'l'ed the 125 Beginners race. (He's cherry.picking. They should have thrown him out...Ed) In the, "We Try Harder, But Still Have Trouble Department: Bob (Had a little spill on his last moto.) Quinton took a seventh in the 100 Beginners, under 16 class, just missing a trophy by one lousy place; Paul Christensen took a seventh in the 125 Beginners, under 16 class and trophied; Larry Wilkerson took a fourth and trophy in the 100 Beginners, under 16; and Billy Ray Dennis took a fifth and trophy at 100 Beginners, under 16. Next stop for the Cillomia Racing Club is next Sunday at Rawhide (It'> really great now.) Park, near Elsinore. You guys who enjoy Arroyo migh t take a look at the new Rawhide. We now have two great parks on the CRC -circuit. ~.1. I •
