Delano TT by Accu Report DELANO, CAL., Oct. 29, 1972 - The smoother, slick surface familiar to District 35 tracks was presented and it didn't slow down anyone as Was evident by the full-lock slides ",ith fast lap times. Competition Was hot and close all the way through, Doug being pressured by Expert Kim Shropshire till tum one pulled_ Kim down in lap three. Tim Phillips got himself some new leathers and cleaned up the 200 Junior class to show them off. The Delano track doesn't leave a rider much room for passing so' more often than not the finish is determined by the start, barring falls and collisions. Such was the case in the 250 Experts. Ron Tobey led off the start line and over the fmish line. Bill Payne has been an Expert for three weeks, ridden eight races and is currently eight for eight wins. In his heat race today Bill muffed it off the line, putting himself back to ninth place among the 360 Juniors and Experts_ It took only three laps for him to work his " Maico up to first then proceed to stretch his lead. In the main he had learned his lesson, jumped off the line into an early lead and really stretched it out, beating his nearest opponent, Jeff Johnson (Kaw), by nearly a third of a lap.
