E.ven if you never heard these names before, you would have seen what they were if you had shown up last Sunday at the all-sidecar picnic in Los Angeles, at Griffith Park. Because of the upsurge in interest pertaining to sidecars, Doug Bingham, well-known hack racer and manufacturer of the Side·Strider sidecar felt that a picnic was in order at this time. He hoped to have as many as 25 hacks show up, but by 10 o'clock. in the morning, there were over 50 parked in the picnic grounds. By noon, the total had grown to oyer 100 with more coming every minute. To add to this, solo riders who wanted to see what sidecars were all about were arriving in • large groups. The whole idea behind the pfcnic was to see if there was enough interest u The Watsonian sidecar in the center pulled by the. immaculate Ariel Square Four. is owned by Austin Munger of the Ariel Owners Association. But we build it better than anyone else in the world. THE BOOGIE THEM The hit of the picnic was this old Indi~n papoose with a breakaway flexible sidecar that was used in thrill shows many years ago. The sad looking little feller in the bucket is one of the all-time greals in hack racing, Freddie Ellsworth. Some of you may remember that Fred got a first overall one year at Big Bear driving a hack. Some solo riders are stH! smarting from that one. MACHINE PUTS IT TO Hodaka mounted Jim Evans won the 100cc GP class at ACA Road Race, Carlsbad Raceway, CarIsba , Oct. 15, 1972.
