E.ven if you never heard these names
before, you would have seen what they
were if you had shown up last Sunday
at the all-sidecar picnic in Los Angeles,
at Griffith Park.
Because of the upsurge in interest
pertaining to sidecars, Doug Bingham,
well-known hack racer and
manufacturer of the Side·Strider sidecar
felt that a picnic was in order at this
time. He hoped to have as many as 25
hacks show up, but by 10 o'clock. in the
morning, there were over 50 parked in
the picnic grounds. By noon, the total
had grown to oyer 100 with more
coming every minute. To add to this,
solo riders who wanted to see what
sidecars were all about were arriving in •
large groups.
The whole idea behind the pfcnic was
to see if there was enough interest

The Hodai:a is built for one
purpose. To out-last and outperform its: competition. How
is \his done? By relining the
same basic. superior design
year after year: Perfecting the
little th;.ngs that multi-model
maru(acturers don't have time
to notice.
Carefully examine the new Hodaka. Notice the trip-set odometer. The feather-light clutch
operation and spring protected
throttle cable. And the rubber
mounted gas tank.
Little things that add up to big
things. We only build one
bike. But we build it better
than anyone else in the world.
THE BOOGIE
THEM
The hit of the picnic was this old Indi~n papoose with a breakaway flexible sidecar that was used
in thrill shows many years ago. The sad looking little feller in the bucket is one of the all-time
greals in hack racing, Freddie Ellsworth. Some of you may remember that Fred got a first overall
one year at Big Bear driving a hack. Some solo riders are stH! smarting from that one.
