The hottest action of the day was in the 125 Senior class as Bruce Baron (Hon), Dave Rodgers (Bul), and Scott Miller (Pen) pulled out all stops for a shot at the first place money. The first moto had Baron and Rodgers after each other from the start, and right away you could see that it was going to be one of those hot contests that go on in the 125 class. The winner was Baron on the quick little thumper with Rodgers right in there with a second. The second moto was almost identical to the Fust with the same two LIONS guys after each other and again Baron won it. Playing the odds you'd probably say it would be Baron all the way but Dave Rodgers puUed a neat hole shot on everyone and Bruce found himself back in third behind Penton rider Scott Miller. While Rodgers opened up a short lead Baron was trying to get by Miller and finally succeeded on lap three, but in his haste to catch Rodgers he dropped his chain in the middle of an up)lill and had to hastily repair it while everyone motored by him. Rodgers' chance at Fust now rested with the other riders as Baron had to Fmish with a third or better to win overall. And that's exactly what he did as he really put on the speed in every section that the others were slowing down in. .". CMe Richard Franklin 1113X) dominated lhe 250 and 500 Senior classes on his CZ. Corona Night MX-----------------~-- by Chris Ostlind CORONA, CAL., Oct. 20, 1972 - With Richard Eirstedt and Rex Staten missing tonigh t, Richard Franklin made short work 0 f the 250 and 500 Senior classes as he swep t to double victories on his quick CZ's. In fact, Franklin's only competition came in the 250 class where he was pressed by Mark Hutchins (CZ). In every molo Franklin got the hole shot and never looked back. But if he had, he would have seen Hutchins hangin' in there just waiting. In the 125 Junior class the old expression of "Putting a blanket over them" really was the name of the game. Stan Jacklin (Bul) took home overall honors as he led David Williams (Yam), ,- MONTESA "THE FINAL FOUR" 9000 SEPULVEDA BLVD. South of Nordoff in SepUlveda, Calif. (213) 894-9218 ----,- ._. Ms. Hoffman was qlrick but just didn't have enough to catch Brett Stokes (DKW). Big bike riders seem to have the easiest time of turning a lap here as the steepness and length of the uphills favors their horsepower. The really super parts of the track are the downhills where the early leaders sometimes blow it by being too cau tious. The width of the track is another good feature as it affords ample room to pass and avoid downed riders.
