Colorado State TT Championshipt----------- by Sonny Anderson DENVER, COLO., Oct. 15, 1972 - The Dusters M/C of Colorado Springs' sponsored the Colorado State Championship T.T. at Rains Raceways today. The 6/10 mile dust free clay track hosted 170 of the area'~ best riders. A Donny Palmgren (you guessed it) in the 250 A Main at Rocky Mountain State TT. Kingman TT-;......--------------------- by Shirley Walker KINGMAN, ARIZ., Oct. 8, 1972 -The TT race held here today was not only exciting but simply good! Over 70 riders participated in the differen t classes. The mini·bikes really put on a show, making people forget they were watching "little" motorcycles and "little" guys. Jimmy Morgan (Yam) won first place honors with Terry Foss (Yam) taking second place. After one bad start, and a few spills, the 100 class proved one of the best of the day. Mark Sutton, on a Honda, won first, with a young lady from Phoenix showing the boys how to ride, taking second with style! Miss Debbie Selby is her name. Rusty Hancock won the Amateur division of the 125 class with the winner in the Novice division being James "Red'> Huggins. Both were riding Yamahas. Bruce "Pug" McLaughlin (Yam) was first in the 175 Novice class. "Red" Huggins was a double winner after also winning the first place trophy in the 250 Novice class to go with his 125 first. He was on a Yamaha in this one too. Second wen t to Allan Guisinger (Bul). The Amateurs and Experts in the 250 class showed what experience can do! Rick Williams, a rider the racing world is going to hear a lot from, won the Amateur division with a close second by Steve Bailey. Rick was on a Suzuki, and Steve on a Bultaco. One of Kingman's best Experts, Steve Simpson, Jr. (Bul), won his division in the manner befitting an Expert. Larry Ross made the crowd stand up and notice the Novice division of the Open class! This guy won't be a Novice long and took home the first place trophy, with second going to Gary Lancaster. Both were on Yamahas. In the last heat in this £Iass they were so close that the scorekeepers were wishing they had video-tape! Rick Williams was another double winner by also winning first in the Open Amateur class. Th~ unlimited class, which is 501cc and up, had Kenneth Killebrew as its winner. Ken rode his big Triumph like it was a ligh t bike, and on a track tailor-made for light bikes, that's no easy feat! Butch Bc;ard (Mai) took second. _ large crowd watched the most exciting and competitive heat and Main event races in Colorado's '72 season. The 250 A Main Event alone changed leader's six times in the eigh t lap race with last years S tate-Champion Bob Conway from Boulder, Colorado winning. . Bruce Sass and Brad Caves (261 at Rocky Mountain State TT. Crockett MX:---------------------by Janet West CROCKETT, TEX., Oct.·15, 1972 - All sorts of good racing went on Sunday! Ralph Robertson (Pen), and Traciel Parker (Pen) were having an alI·out war for first place in the 125 Experts. For several laps, Robertson tried to edge around Parker, nearly making it each time; finally, in trying to get around, a minor accident ensued, and both crashed, dropping back to fourth and fifth place, leaving Philip Yarborough (Bul) in fltst place. After gaining the first place lead, Yarborough ran away with it, fmishing with a very nice lead the first lap.. Robertson and Parker were at it again in the. second heat. Off the line, Parker held the lead, and seemed to be gaining ground, when all of a sudden, Ralph got ants in his pants and just flew on around in the front straight! Both ride.rs did some very fine riding in the second .heat; especially Ralph, who, upon gaining the first place position, widened his lead into quite a stretch. Robertson again took the third heat, apparently with no trouble at all. Bryan Fox (CZ) was riding beautifully - until the last heat of the 250 Experts. In the first two heats, Bryan had a great lead on the other riders, and easily came in first for the checkered flag. However, due to a rather severe craSh in the Open Experts, the last heat was a bit rough on him. Bill Felder (Hus), who had maintained a second place during both the first and second heats, came out in front this time, riding very, very well. Even though Fox finished third in the third mota, he led by lap counts, and the tie between he and Bill was broken in Bryan's favor, giving Felder second, a nice finish, conside.ring the competition. Crash! Pow! Whammo! Bammmm! Not even Batman's explosive words could describe the things that happened in the Open Experts! Bobby Robertson (CZ) rode like heck! His competition consisted of some pretty rough stuff, too: Bryan Fox, Charlie Coburn, Doug Mxey, and on and on. Robertson came out smelling like a rose - first. In the second heat, Bryan Fox and Tim Kelly did quite a number - Kelly came flying over his handlebars, and Fox managed to hurt his arm.
