0-37 TT at Elsinore 395 TT and Half-Mile by Imogene Rees ADELANTO, CAL., OCl. 21, 1972 'The cold weather that's come to the high desert doesn't seem to affect the racers a bit as they turned in a good show. In the 100 Nov. TT, Cary Evans !Kaw) was the guy to beat. Cary got the Jump off the line and hung in there all the way to the checkered flag. Don Tallman (Kaw) did his best to find an opening but had to settle for second in this one. In the Half-mile Cary had it again until his bike gave up near the end. Don Tallman took over the lead and grabbed the trophy with second going to Bryan King (Kaw). Jeff Clark (Bul) had it all together in the 250 class. He must have remembered to fill his tank with Catorade this week. Having the race pretty much to him'self in the TT, Chris Morland (Bul) ctanked it on hard from the rear of the pack but couldn't close the.gap and took second. The Half-mjle was a repeat with Jeff holding a strong lead all the way, racking up two more trophy's for himself. Chris took another second in this one. Bob Cregor (Yam) grabbed an early lead in the 125 class and held it all the way .to the end. Greg Wilburn (Yam) gave It alj he had and took second. This was the nigh t for double-headers wi th Bob taking first in the Half-mile and Creg another second. Thomas Howe (H-D) and Dan Rees (Suz) battled it out in the Open Nov. lt was wheel-to-wheel all the way in the T.T. Dan slid out on the last lap and still (managed a second with Tom grabbing .the brass. They dueled again in the Half-mile with Tom taking another first and Dan second. Both riders displayed top racing form. The AU Expert TT was the race to watch. Steve Sisco, the flying eleven-year old, led the pack all the way to capture his first trophy as an Expert. It's something to see when an eleven-year old leads the big boys around. Even stranger to believe that he could be one of th e bad clemen ts in motorcycle. racing that the city officials are always harping about. Steve is always a serious threat in any race. He's a 66 lb. package of talen t. Pat Dale (BSA) wants it known that it was an old man on an old bike (1957 vintage; not one of those new jobbers) that took second. by Ed Drechsler ELSINORE, CAL., Oct. 21, 1972 - For quite a while now. I have wondered where the girl TT riders have gone. A year or two ago, there was always a Powder Puff class at every race. Sometimes they even had so many that they had to race heats. But lately there have been hardly enough to make a class. When one or two girls did show up, they were offered a ride with the men or no ride at all. Tonight I learned where they went. They ·ride motocross now. It was only because of a tight schedule at Elsinore Raceway that this information came my way. Originally the Ugh tweigh ts MC had scheduled a TT for Sunday which was to be a benefit run for Jeff Sexton and Paul riebolson, both of whom had. suffered sever injuries on the track and both of whom belong to the Lightweights M.C. Come to find out, the Side Hack Association had also scheduled a District 37 motocross for the same day. Being that the motocross had been scheduled first, the Lightweights had to slip their race to Saturday night. Motocrossers going to ride Sunday came early Saturday 'nigh t to race the rf. Strangely enough, there were no Hacks at the TT. MXer Larry Bird did in the TTers. or most of them. He won the 125 Expert class. Mark Reichert and Scott Smith did their best to catch him, but the flamboyant Yamaha rider was feeling too good to take anything but a first place. Larry also challenge'd the 500 Experts. Riding with the same. enthusiasm he gave a merry chase to the curren t Number One, Kirk Redding. Scon Smith took third ahead of a very impressive pack. We bet that the flashbulb didn't help their night vision. Super l,;harhe Soderstrom got beat in the 200 class, but bounced back to win the 250 Expet. Charles Gann and Jim Wright did the job, whieb w-as impressive. The reason Super Charlie got beat? T.H. Paskel changed the course. He took out the long, back straightaway' by inserting a hard left hand turn about half way down. Tbe new portion consisted of the hard left tum (down hill); a sharp right hander (flat); and a sweeping left hander (sligh tly up hill); which en tered the old course at the back sweeper. The new look makes Elsinore a tigh ter course and almost eliminates any horsepower advantage. Here, the start is all ln the Half·mile, Ray Martin (Yam) took first and Jack Langston (Yam), second with a third for the old man on the old bike: Pat Dale (BSA). The Mini-bikers were there to do their stuff, with Terry McCreery taking first in both races. Dan J ones took second in the TT and Jeff Hooper a second in the Half-mile. . Next Sat, Oct. 28, will be the last night race for H.R_A. with day racing starting Nov. 5 tho H.R.A. will end their season on the last Sun. in Nov. A bang-up banquet is planned for the first part of Decem!>er, with all kinds of groovy awards being given. Watch for the date and don't miss it. Sliding his little heart out at Elsinore. Sreve Sisco is 11 years old. He won the combined Expert class on a 125 at 395. Pam Bales, I'm sorry: Mrs. Pam Hill, carne back after having ber baby to start riding again. Pam and her trusty Montesa swiftly did in the large pack of Powder Puffers. Riding like she never was away from the track, she smoked the course just like last year. No one seems to have a chance' against her. It was John Sprague, Vic Hannon and newly transferred Jay Hunter in the Open Amateur/Expert event. John and Vic are just about evenly matched and unbeatable at this course. Jay Hunter appears to have what it takes to successfully challenge them.
