Mota Sports Park seemed to be the
place to be today. There was an
abundance of riders and the spectators
seemed to enjoy it as much as the riders
did, Bill Law, riding a new 250 Yamaha,
jumped way out ahead of the pack and
led every lap. Roland Storbeck moved
up through the pack, after a bad start,
and challenged Bill for first place but
couldn't make it around him, Overall
Bill Law was first, Roland (Maico)
second and Tommy Adams (Pen) third.
The 100 Junior class was a big one.
Billy Beck (Pen) wrestled' first place
from John Wehb (Hod) in the third lap
of the first moto and rode in the
number one position the rest of the
way. John Webb took second just ahead
of Ronny Pen tecost (Yam). The second
mota Ronny dove in to the lead and
stayed the. < for 5 long laps, only to lose
to Billy Beck, who slipped around
Ronny to take the checkered flag first.
Ronny was left with second and John
Webb took third. The overall winners
were in this same order.
The first heat of the large 125'] unior
division was won by Mark Poindexter
(Pen), who led all the way. Vernon
Markworth (Pen) brough t i.n a good
strong second followed by Craig Mizes
(Suz) and Robert Morrison (Pen). Craig
Mizes followed Vernon Markworth for
three laps in the second heat but then
passed to take the lead for the rest of
the heat. Mark Poindexter then dropped
into second place followed by Robert
Morrison. Final tally showed Mark first,
Craig second, Vernon third, and Robert
fourth.
The 125 Seniors put on a show in the
first heat. frank Peebles pulled out
quite a lead, but the real race was
behind him. Bruce Miller (Pen) and
Grizzly Bear Team rider Robert Vaughn
(Bul) were really hookin' it until
Robert's stinger broke off and he had
shut her down. John Wolma (Pen) then
moved up into third, followed by James
Garcia (Pen). The second heat had
Bruce Miller in the lead all the way,
with James Garcia in hot pursuit. Frank
Peebles (Pen) bought ·third place and
John Wolma fourth. Overall winners
were Bruce Miller, Frank Peebles, and
James Garcia.
OK stands for DKW. Also David Klein who is pursued by James Garcia.
Dean Mizes (Suz) from Corpus
Christi won the 126-200 Junior class,
followed by Robert Striker (Yam) and
Alfred Bushong (Pen) taking third. The
250 Junior class was another biggie,
both racewise and quantity of riders.
Tim Langner (Cl) rode fantastically and
copped first place in the first heat.
Robert Reynolds (Oss) took second
place from David Kruse in the third lap.
John PetreIJa took third. The second
mota's results were exactly the same as
the first one. therefore. the win'1ers had
