From a 50·page color program to the completely tabulated and printed resulls, it was super planning all the way. The International Two Days Trial at D'alton, Massachusetts was a 360·mile invitational event, purposely nol advertised, run in the area to be used for the 1973 International Six Days Trial. Overall winner, and a' remarkable accompJishment for an Amen"'can manufacturer, was Dave Eames on a 500cc Yankee. Dave had 0 marks and a low total of 1050.6 bonus points. This fantastic score for a heavyweigh t is the culmination of many near wins for the Coast Guardsman ove·r the last two years. On leave, Dave returned to the hills wbere he tramped· around as a youngster and proved that he and the Yankee were a winning ombination. The Manufacturer's Team Award was won by the Swedish Monark Team of Bengt Gustavsson, Kurt Gustavsson and teve Tell. Kurt and Steve also finished second and fourth overall. Bengt lost heavily on bonus points with a spill on tum three of the road race. The team from Sweden, Narcis Casis and Carlos Giro of Spain, and Zdenek Ce.pival of Czechoslovakia were colorful riders to observe and, in places, their riding style showed their supcrionty 10 this type of event. Running on the "B" average of 25 mph (40 km/h) was fast for most enlries and fatigue showed in their scores. They expressed a desire for a slower. more demanding course for next year's ISDT. Planner AI Eames. affectionately called "Mr. Berkshire". started working on the trail in July with a crew that was out every weekend. AI desi.ed the contestants to ride the trails while putting a God Medal within reach of the proficient. F 1 M observers from Spain. Czechoslovakia and Sweden were led by Juan Soler Bulto and expressed their approval of tbe even t. 1n his final commenJ,S, Mr. Bulto expressed his thanks to the AMA Director. Russ March, who accompanied him for three days and to Competition Director, Don Woods, Clerk of the Course and Ed Youngblood, AMA Public Relations. A team of tough·riding marshals were interspersed with the can testan ts and their roving eyes cut the rule violations to a minimum. Extensive first aid crews, including some riding the trail. kept injuries down to two. both minor. Fred Chase of San Francisco, California suffered a fractured knee. Machine breakdown on the fast course took its toll. The Rokon team f10ished two of its three entries with team leader, Tom Clark, in the gold. Jack Krizman, Harley·Davidson team leader was out on the first day, the rest of the team on the second day.
