Not in one but two classes! Tim Hart tried his luck on three different machines and had more bad luck in less time than he's had in the past three or four months. In the first 125 Expert go, Tim was chasing Dave Rodgers (Pen) and was succeeding in holding second place until he lost it at tlte start/finish line picking up the last lap flag. He must have been behind on repairs on the DKW to make the next moto start so he tried it on a Penton. Even though he crashed again, he was still disqualified. Came back o"t for the third attempt on the DKW again, only this time it had another chamber on it and Hart ran away with the win (third time's a charm?) but Rodgers, who won the second as well, had the _ overall win sewed up. Now, let's try the 500 Expert. Right off, would you believe it, Tim couldn't get that big Maico to fire. Try again and in the second moto he won going away (whew, at last). The third moto arrives and off he goes only to los fire. Pack 'em up and head home, but we wonder if he did the driving? Hart wasn't the only one to have troubles. Dave Pessy, who won the first two 250 motos, took a second to Joe Johnston in the third to win that class handily. But in the 500s, Pessy won the first and' took second in round two. Seeming to be ready for the overall win, here, too, he built a huge lead only to dump. the bike and load it up. By the time he got started and finished dead last, he lost the overall lead to Robert Elliott (CZ). He settled for second instead. CMC A s c o t - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -_ _ by Buzz Baty/Creative linages GARDENA, CAL., Oct. 11, 1972 - It isn't very often that the Intermediates pick up some of the glory in the CMC's weekly motocross gig at Ascot Park, but this week we'd like to congratulate Dennis Andre for a fine never-give-up effort in the 125 Intermediate class to win overall without winning a single mow. . In the first, Angel Possa (Zun) picked off the win, but watched that advantage fade when he failed to fmish the nex t two rounds. Mark Martinez, after finishing 13th in the first round, came back to win the next encounter in fine fashioI). AU the while, Andre had .settled for third each time and was suddenly up there staring an overall win in the face. Came the final showdown and Jeff Bunn (Ric) tagged the win with Andre second and Pete McCormick (CZ) third. Pete' had finished second in moto one, but dipped to eighth. in the mid-round to falloff the pace just a bit. So, totalling up the points, Andre and his Honda grabbed overall with McCormick second. Bunn, the only moto winner in the top three, took third. A fine, close race. Both Greg Jones (Yam/250) and Mark Samuelson (Mai/500) swept the remaining two Intermediate clashes. In E'\Pert compelition, the 250 and 500 classes were also three moto -sweeps going to Dave Pessy (Oss/250) and Tim' Hart (Mai/500). Charlie Bower had his Penton in sight of a sweep after winning the first two rounds of the 125 class, bu t in the final showdown he had but one obstacle to beat: Mark Tyer. Tyer had finished second to' Bower twice, but in the finale, he had grabbed the lead and was not about to 1et go. Chuck pressured all the way but ryer held him off with a superb ride. Although Bower won overall, Tyer seems to be improving sufficiently to give him a rough go...for now at least. With Bob Hosford away practicing for the Baja 1000, Jimmy MacDonald was here to bannerize the Honda colors in the 250 class, but it was Pessy's Ossa doing the sweep. MacDonald picked off second in motos one and two, but swapped positions in the final with Rich Eierstedt (Mai), who was third in rounds one/two. Jimmy still took second overall with Eierstedt third. Kenny COM/NO. UP-fUNjtM!t GIANT David Pessy. 250 Expert winner at Lions. Cook (Mai) had three fours to take fourth. With Hart continuing to dominate the 500s, Dave Pessy moved into the runner-up spot this week as Bill Payne was away. Pessy finished second "to Hart. Jo'. Kelly Owen (100/Pen), Dan Davis (125/Yam), Mike Bell (250/Mai) and Bill Taggart (500/Mai) each won his respective Junior cl'\ss final moto. ~.
