Kole's major competition was coming from Mike V anLienden's 360, Selby Rickman, but this week, Mike figured that it was time to try out his new Iy pu t together Selby BSA and give the 650s a run, so with only 12 points between them the fight was over. Mike got a second on Friday and missed out on Saturday, while Kole scored enough points in both the 250 and 500 Placerville Night MX by Bruce C. Young PLACERVILLE, CAL., Sept. 29, 1972 - Pete and Bill Scarlett made it two in a row with double headers both tonight as well as last week. These two just seem unbeatable. Pete dominates the 125 Amateur class, and Bill does his thi"g in the Open Expert races. New Amateur Pat Wilson of Auburn was Pete's closest competition. In the 125 Expert race, which was combined with the Amateurs, it was the old winner of the past, Mike Jennings, who won easily both in the 125 as well as the 250 Expert races. In the Amateur ranks of the 250 class it was Keith Honor who won this side of the coin. Bill Green did his thing in the Open class with two wins to take the overall Amateur win. Finishing second in the Open was Dudley Lenhart. The Novice races are always exciting _ Divisions to uphold his season long bid for the Ray Hook donated. Blendzall Trophy which will be given out Saturday nigh t, October 14. 'Still, the kid to beat in the 250 Expert run is Alex Jorgensen and this week, Alex garnered another four points on District point leader Jeff Davidson, cutting the distance to 11 points and with a month of racing still in sight, the figh t is really getting tigh t. The rough scrambles may well decide the outcome, and while Jeff figures that if he is beat, at least the guy who beats him is the best there is around, he figures to be in the thick of it. With two rough scrambles scheduled for Fremont and . four at Oakdale, the battle will most likely situate itself around those two spots. Some of Jorgensen's steam went out at the Stockton scrambles when his BSA blew itself out of existence and so he must rely on his Kawasaki to do the major part of the racing. So far it is doing a better than average job as he just keeps on winning. . In the battle for 650 Division high point honors, Bill Landsborough sewed up his second championship of the year wi th a win in Saturday night's competition. He won the Hayward 650 high . point just last week and by defeating Jack Bonamarte by a sufficient number of points (four), he also won the Fremont cake. Bill's activities will now tum toward motocross as that is the only activity -nat he is not recognized as an Expert • • • ~-------- with the riders seeming to try hard to take the brass. Tonight's races were no different. The track was a bit on the muddy side with the rain that had come during the week and it really got interesting to see who would come out on top at the end of each moto. . Even with all the mud and racing there were several riders that won both motos with considerable ease. The 100 Novice race was again won by John Boxler on his super powerful Hodaka. Double winner Cloyse Holland, Jr. took top honors in the 250 Novice races. Cloyse is the son of an old timer in the motorcycle game, and he really puts all his acquired knowledge to work on the race track. The two 125 Novice Divisions were won by Jeff Stadel and Paul Hamel. Next week will be our last for the season but the Friday night events will be back bigger than ever nex t year. Chris Willems has been doing a job on NarCal tracks of late. Here he is shown between events at the Fremont Marathon keeping his hands hidden and his confidence up. Photo by Patrick Neil.
