rumor that we have heard about the
Champion Classic was the one about
some rider crashing and breaking his
seat - revealing some illegal contraband
concealed therein.
The 250 Combined races are always
interesting because the machinery is
relatively similar and it puts everyone
on an equal level. It also shows who the
fast Juniors are. Steve Baker has only
ridden a handful of road races, bu t he
rmished fifth in the Combined and was
first Junior. Baker is a dirt tracker at
heart. The slight build, glasses, and
braces add to the image, too.
Other notable performances were put
in by Marty Lunde and Dave Smith.
Smith showed that he is recovered from
his early season injuries and means
business. Conrad Urbanowski was
another privateer who was up there in
the top ten, riding consistently -in both
the Combined and the 250 Miler.
