Considerably weakened by the effort but determined to finish, he endo.ed the machine not long after and pinned his bad leg under the bike. Unable to move, he had to wait until some spectators came along to release him. This earned him a trip to the hospital where his leg was treated. He was released later in the day. Thus ended the Yankee [SOT saga, probably for all time. Rumor has it that a new single cylinder Yankee is in prospect, which should help somewhat. THE CLUBS From the two club teams the U.S. entered we had only one finisher, Gene Cannady, riding for an invention called the Rough Riders' Club. That Gene was riding on a club team at all is one of the sorriest commen ts possible on the AMA's handling of the selection of riders, but that's another story. Cannady posted a great performance up until the sixth day, running ninth in his class of 76 riders. On the sixth day, ne_ had trouble starting his bike at the road race and dropped a bundle of bonus points but still managed to get a gold. His teammates were Steve Hurd, also on a Penton and Joe Carson on a Man tesa. Both were out the first day, Steve with magneto failure and Joe with gearbox failure. The Razorback Enduro Club consisted of Dave Mungenast, Leroy After being shuttled from team to team and from Jawa to Penton, Gene Cannady managed to cop a Gold meal. On the "motocross" special test.
