Even time trials did not come easy and Gary Scott and Mert Lawwill ran a tie for (ast time honor. Scott got it first and there were more firsts to come for the rookie. Scott took the first heat with Lloyd Houchins running second, before dropping out. This put Ore!(on's Randy Scott in to second, Charlie Thielke, third and Washington's Randy Skiver, fourth. Mike Kidd, the kid from Texas, came up with his problems and failed to get out of the heat. Tom Horton. and Denny Kanegae handed Scott Brelsford a "gift" win in the Junior final when Kanegae ran in to Horton while both were running first and second. The two machines locked together and nearly stopped. This shot Brelsford into a lead that Horton could not overcome before the finish. Horton was still hot about the whole affair two hours after the race was over. Washing'ton's Steve Baker finished a distant fourth for top out of state honors. The Novice race was again a two rider dassic. John Gennai grabbed the lead with Rick Hocking getting by only once and then making ,one small mistake. This is all it took to put Gennai back in fron t for the win. The two riders were nearly a half a lap ahead of the rest of the field at the finish, and still running a few feet apart.
