Sunday all proceeds were donated to Sonny Walker who is still unconcscious in the hospital at Oklahoma City, and the following day KMSA bonus poin ts were given. After three days of rain Hare scramblers earned their trophies. Even after a full day's racing, the track was still soaked. Since the track was so terribly muddy, chutes were made for the riders to pass through and enabled the scorers to read the numbers a little easier. The conditions Monday were a little better for motocross riders but there were still a few water holes. One thing the riders didn't have to worry about was the dust. And that's the truth! We would like to take a moment here and invite all riders to our $1000 r.ace on October I here in Wichita. Our track will be in tip-top shape and should prove to be a challenge to any rider. We have sanitary facilities for those who wish to come in campers. Iowa Short Track - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - _ by Tim Seller MARSHALLTOWN, IA., Sept. 2, 1972 ahead of the field. VICTORIA, TEX., Sept. 3, 1972 - Mid Coast Cycle Park in Victoria ·held Motocross races September 3, 1972. Quite a lot of improvements have been made on this track and the new managers are planning on a lot more. Ricky Pilgrim (Yam) took first place in all three motos for an undisputed fust overall in the 100 Junior division. Another Yamaha rider, Ronny Pentecost, took a solid second. Ronny was just behind Ricky in every moto, waiting for RicKy'to goof. Ricky didn't ohlige so Ronny had to be content with second. Number one money maker in the 100 enior class was Davy Davis, riding a Hodaka. Second place was won by Dwayne Michicek (Yam), and Hodaka mounted Joe Powers racked up third. Richard Stellman (Yam) took first overall in the 125 Junior division. He took a second in the first heat, a third in the second heat then back up to second place in the last heat, giving him the necessary points for first place in front of Ricky Pilgrim. Victoria's own Bruce Miller, riding a brand new Penton, won the 125 Senior class, but he had to do some super fast and hard riding to do it. He won the first two heats but dropped down to third in the last heat. Glenn Griffin, another Victorian, on an Ossa, pushed Bruce every inch of the way bu tended up with second overall. Joe Witter (Pen) BEARCAT RACEWAY M X - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - by C.W. Sanderson ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Sept. 4, 1972 - The day was bright and sunny, just right for a day of racing. For the last three days the rainmaker has been working overtime in New Mexico. The last points race of the New Mexico Moto X Club has been postponed once already. Not all was lost though. 186 riders returned the following day and made Bearcat Raceway a very lively place. Bearcat is located outside of Albuquerque in the moun tains and is usually very cool. Not so this day; it was a scorcher. The track was muddy, the mudholes were muddier and promised to be a spectator attraction when the Novices and others came truckin' ? to 1000 acres - hills, streams, sand 7 days arlng-a-blke... La Habra Blvd. La Habra, Ca. (805) 529-2371 through to fast. The hot shoe of the day was Gene Durham. Gene raced in three classes: 125, 250 and Open. 1n both the 125 and 250 classes he rode a Monark, winning the Expert classes handily. The Open class, which he usually considers his, was nipped from under his nose hy another Albuquerque rider, Mike Ahern. Mike kept one step ahead, picking up first place in the Open, riding a Maico and second in the 125 Expert. Although Mike came from behind to capture the second spot in the 125 Expert class, his Penton couldn't quite catch the Monark Durham had. In the 100 Expert it looked all too easy. Running consistently hard in the 125 Expert class paid off for Bruce. He captured third place money. ~.~ CRASH A D BURN -~, ~ ...... MUNTZ CYCLE PARK _ who came down from Austin, Tx. to race took home third place loot. These guys all rode like crazy, giving the spectators a good show. Mike Lyons (Yam) jumped out ahead of the pack to win two firsts and one second in the 250 Junior class, sewing up theoverall points for the trophy. Husky rider, Bill Fowler, took the numher two slot followed by Darrell Pittman on his Honda. David Bosart (Bul), as usual, dominated the 250 Senior division. He rides like crazy but looks like he's putting out very little effort. He's fantastic to watch. Bryant Tillson and Jack Withers, both riding CZ's tried mightily to beat Bosart but were unsuccessful. David took first in every moto. Bryan t took second place money and Withers took third. Bill Law (Maico) gathered the open class gold but it was a long tough battled for him. Bill had some tough competition in the form of Bill Kasson (Yam) and Larry Priano (Hus). Overall winners, after points were tallied, were Law, Kasson and Priano. The minibike class was won by Mike Mac Farlane. Steve Storbeck took second followed by Mark Varley. The Operators of Mid-Coast Cycle Park... Bobby Platt and Lionel Cardosa, were preased with the large number of out-of-town riders that showed up for this meet. They extend an open invitation to everyone to come to Victoria, Tx. every first Sunday and spend the day at Mid-Coast Cycle Park. LTD .
