RIVERSiDE, CAL., Sept. 17. 1972 The ACA and Riverside Race" ~y drew
over 200 entries today for 11 separate
classes. The highlight of the day's
activities were the 250 and Open Senior
CP races.
In the 250 fast class Pat Evans and
Jim Evans (no relation) battled for the
win. Jim led off the line but then Pat
came bac);. up on him and the lead
swapped again and again as the two
Evanses pushed each other to set a new
250 lap record in the ten lap race. At
the flag it was Evans, J1m Evans, on his
Mel Dinesen tuned Yamaha.
The day's big winner was Reg
Pridmore who won three events: the
Open GP, the Open production, and the
sidecar. S trang<;ly while Pridmore's solo
rides are BMW's his sidecar is powered
by a Norton instead of the traditional
BM.) The GP race was a near thing for
Reg, though, as Steve McLaughlin
aboard the Action Fours Honda 750
was closing on him after a bad start.
When the nag rell Pridmore on his
BMW
750
rocketed
away,
but
McLaughlin was caugh t in traffic. He
was further slowed when a rider fell in
fron t of him in tum six on the first lap
and by the oil in tum seven which
required a single file formation through
that tum. Event'ually Steve broke free
of traffic and began to close on
Pridmore, but then something came
loose in the Hond.a's transmission and
he lost fifth gear. His problems were
heightened when his front brake
stopped working properly. Even ·so, he
was still closing when the nag dropped.
The first 350 in was piloted by Jim
Evans and super-tuned by Mel Dinesen.
This correspondent was blessed with
ride on the very fast, production base.d
Action Fours Honda 500 and was first
500.
The heavyweigh t production race
saw Pridmore on another BMW follow
Dennis Pegeiow off the starting grid but
Reg very soon changed things and took
the lead. The Bob Endicott, back in
action after breaking his back at the last
Riverside race, also passed Dennis.
Endicott, who appeared a bit cautious
in first outing, was not able to catch
