At present it is not known if Foreste r, the first of 97 starters to finish, has won the event, but we can hardly wait to find out. * * * Ben Harroll, public relation s fellow for the AMA, is touring the US to get some grass·r oots feedbac k from' AMA associat ed road riders. The next place that he w~1 tum up is at the Wedded Wheels run at Feather River Canyon . Ben said, when he dropped Into our offices to chat in the middle of our deadlin e ·rush, that there are many areas that he would like to see helped and develop ed by the AMA, and.tha t there are plans afoot to do so. One such area is antique s. Plans being discusse d include a museum with a lot of the informa tion and materia l that has been accumu lated by the Antique MC being put to use. Ben feels that the AMA must get Into this area. The road rider 15 the man that the AMA has the most future plans for. A quarter ly road tour is in the wor.ks. 'The idea is to get someth ing that 15 family oriented . Send your ideas to the AMA to the attentio n of Ben. They will welcom e them. The future of road dUbs, Ben reflecte d, is probabl y' in the area of commu nity service: working with kids, getting them into bikes and offering alternat ives to getting into trouble . Ben told us what AMA clubs around the country are doing. In Oregon they got the state to put up signs waming of grooved paveme nt ahead. (You know the lines that cuase the wiggles.) Californ ia is waiting to see what type of standar dization the Departm ent of Transpo rt will invent. The AMA is also pushing the youth minibik e program In coopera tion with Honda and the YMCA in order to bring kids to bikes and kids of differen t backgro unds togethe r. They are also approac hing Boys' Town to expose the boys there to bikes and respons ible motorcy cle educati on. * * * * As we glance through other publica tions from the US and abroad, we become aware of one overwh elming ly undenia ble fact: Jamo Saarine n's girl friend is withou t a doubt the most photogr aphed woman in the sport. Jamo Saarine n, current 250 world champi on road racer is going to come over for the Ontario Nationa l. Al Godin is the man who is importi ng him and is to be comme nded for soing so. Many observe rs say that Saarine n is the best Europe an going these days. He will be riding a Yamaha TR-3.
