XXIX -Antela eValle Fair and Alfalfa Festival Short Track by Ron Russell . LANCASTER, CAL., Aug. 31st - Once a year AMA professional racing comes to the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds, when J. C. Agajanian presents his yearly AMA Short Track races on the one-eighth mile dirt track on the opening night of the Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival. With $1,200 in prize money on the line, the top Novice, Junior and Expert riders were on hand to do battle, bu t Novice John Gennai swept the card as he won his heat, Semi, Trophy Dash, and the 15-lap Main event on his Bultaco. Using the same form that has carried him to the top of the Novice poin trace as Ascot, Gennai blasted into the lead on the start of the Main, held off the challenges of local Junior favorite Tom Horton for six laps until Horton's Montessa blew up, then went on to win by a large distanc~. . Houston Astrodome JunIOr TT winner, Joe Brown, was second on a Yamaha, witli Bob Hosford up for third on a Honda. Dave Lewis had to settle for fourth and Steve Fredrickson fmished fifth, both on Bultacos. Gennai's biggest challenge came in three lap Trophy Dash, as Horton made a last minute bid for the lead, lossing by a wheel at the checkered. Art Carter was third on a Bultaco with Lewis fourth. . Two sizzling performances marked the Tropby Dash as defending track champion, Goade, defeated Evans and Garcia in the TT dash, while Corbett, Furu, and Goade scorched the oval in a high speed performance with Corbett taking the checkered ahead of Furu. Trailing all but the final lap, Furu (Oss), came through with a brilliant .urge to take the lead and the checkered from Coberly in the 250 F.T_ Semi. After leading the pack for four furious laps of action, Coberly proved one thing, that no rider ",an afford to make one little mistake and .till come out on top of this oval. Coming off the third corner of the final lap, Coberly bobbled just a trifle, and in an instant, both Furu and Newquist went by him to take first and second. John Gennai continued his winning ways adding another Short Track win to his impressive victory streak. When will he be beaten? .
