EL TORO, CAL., Aug. 30, 1972 Bobby Tocco did it again in the
Schoolboy Expert division, as Brad
Dutoit appeared to be having bike
trouble and was unable to give him any
competition.
Jeff Ward finished up second in the
Expert Schoolboy, and Danny Jones
garnered the firs t i n termediate
Schoolboy. The Junior division went to
Kevin Harlow in a near sweep, and
second place wen t to Joy Marimon.
Tim Marimon then came on to roll
over the other bikes in the 100 Junior I
as he captured the first place over
Roland Rodman and Matt Sprout. The
second division fell roundlv to the
riding of Rick Wiseman, but Scott
Hanysler finished up an extremely close
second.
...
Peter Harrison had a good night
fmishing twice in the top positions. A
second place finish in the 250 Junior II
The rest of the moto continued with the
three leaders in the same positions to
the end. Lackey dropped back a little
about two-thirds of the way through
but then seemed to get a second wind
and was moving to challenge Priddy as
the checkered flag fell.
The second moto again saw Priddy
the leader out of the hole followed by
DeSoto and Lackey. By the end of the
first lap, DeSoto led with Priddy and
Lackey at his heels. Bultaco rider Jim
Pomeroy took one brief lap in third
abead of Lackey but Brad reclaimed
third. Lackey then began pushing
Wyman and took over second. Things
continued this way with Brad making a
bid for DeSoto's lead. However, in the
eleventh lap a link in John's chain
broke, forcing him to coast to a
disgusted stop just when it seemed had
the win in the bag.
The last laps to the flag were led by
Lackey and Priddy with Jim Cooke,
another Kawasaki rider, taking third.
For the third time in the afternoon,
Wyman Priddy got to the comer first,
followed by Brad Lackey and Gary
Chaplin. John DeSoto never made the
last ·moto. Those first three riders held
their order through four laps. In the
fifth, Brad Lackey took over the lead,
leaving Priddy in second and Gary
did not put a damper on his spirits as he
went on to sweep the 500 Juniors like
they weren't even there. Second place in
the 500 went to Dan Chandler, while
first place in the 250 Junior II went to
George Smith.
125 Juniors Bob Hoover and Jim
Dean fmished the evening with near
sweeps in both divisions, giving Art
Kratz and Eddie Coulter the second
spot in the frrst and second divisions
respecitvely.
The 250 Junior I crown was traded
bac k and forth during the nigh t's racing,
fmally falling to Bill Turner by two
points in the final tally.
Turner started out the evening with
two wins and it looked like he was going
to make' it a sweep, when he finished
with a fifth in the last mo·to. This gave
Don Chandler a chance to grab the last
win, but not enough points to take over
the lead.
Chaplin a distant third. Lackey did "great job with the Kaw this moto and
although Priddy challenged several times
during ¢e leg, he never was able to best
Lackey agan. Final tally: Brad Lackey,
Wyman Priddy and Gary Chaplin.
So that's the kind of pit tootsies they have in
Alabama. Or did she immigrate?

CORONA, CALIF. Aug. 25, 1972 The Mini Cycles were the first order of
the night at Corona Raceway with
Randy Grizzle taking three firsts and
thereby winning the overall. John
Shamburg on a Honda ran a consistent
, second for that position.
The 100 Beginners were combined
with the 100 Juniors. Glenn Tanaka on
a Suzuki ran very consistent motos and
took the overall win. John McGonigal
(Yam) came in second on pain ts. The
100 Junior race was won by Bob Seeley,
once again, on the strength of three
wins. Jeff Carver on a Hodaka came in
for the second place trophy.
In the 125 Beginner Division I Race,
we found Tony De Philips on a Bultaco
in first position with Chris Kramer (Sac)
second. Bob Marshall (Yam) came in for
third. In the 125 Beginner Division II,
Jon Mantley (CZ) came in for the first
place money with Jerry Justice pushing
him to the wire on a Bultaco and Raym
Obermeyer on a new Husky was right
behind Jerry.
In the 125 Junior action, Clay
- Masters who normally runs on theThursday night show, came in for the
first overall on the strength of three
wins with Lee Jouglard, another
Thursday night rider, on a DKW for
second and Larry West (Yam), third.
In the 250 Beginner Division I, Gary
McNeal (Yam) won two firsts and then
barely finished the other mota but had
enough poin ts for the win. John
McKnigh t (Mai) came in for second due
to the attrition rate. Dick Miller (CZ)
was third.
In the 250 Beginner Division II Race
Dan Crawford on a Suzuki "Smoked
'em" however Donald Ross was pushi~
on his Yamaha; then Bob Brown (Man)
came in third.
In the 250 Junior Race Chris
Cavanaugh (Yam) took first overall on
points just ahead of Clay Musolf on a
CZ. Clay may have taken the overall
first position, if it weren't for the fact
that he was penalized 'one lap in the first
moto for being under the rub,ber band
at the start.
In the 500 Beginner, Craig Diehl
(Suz) won two out of three motos and
in the other came in second, therefore
winning overall. He did have a good race
with Mike McKnigh t (Mai) who fa ugh t
him all the way. John J ones, also on a
Maico, came in third.
In the Old timers Race, there was a
very large turnout and they provided
the show for the spectators. Rod
Farmez on a Huskey was able to put it,
all together for the first overall win,
with. Larry Ellis (Suz) right up his
silencer. Dennis Peck came in third,
however didn't finish the second mota,
otherwise he migh t have taken the first
overall on his Ossa.
