CMC LIONS - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - _
by Buzz Baty
WILMINGTON, CAL" Aug. 25, 1972Everybody that bought a pit pass got a
free C'"IC hot hot. Was it a successful
promotion? Over nine hundred people
bought pit passes and got a CMC hot
hat.
HRLubricants and Ms. Molly Blue
gave away scads of autographed photos,
and the new HRL Molly decal, looking
very pretty while she did it. Molly also
presented each class winner with an
HRL jacke.t and a kiss. I got the distinct
impression that most a f the guys were
more interested in the kiss from Molly
than getting the jacket.
Bryar Holcomb decided that winning
the 500 Expert class last week was
kinda neat, so he did it again tonight,
beating out Bob Hershey and third place
finisher, Maico mounted Bill Payne.
Hershey finished third on his CZ 'Iast
week, improving one position this week,

CARLSBAD, CAL., Aug. 19, 1972
That fickle lady, Mom Nature, must
have felt bad about the weather she gave
the AMC Saddleback last Saturday,
becau5C' she really came through with
sunny skys and cool. ocean breez~s to
blow moderate amounts of dust away.
As the Yamaha eries draws near the
end, the racing was just as fine as the
weather. For example: the normally
hotly contested 125 Jr. class was even
better than usual with extra fast Robt.
Williams (Suz) again taking first. But
Williams victory'"
not an easy one, as
he and Penton pil· t John Dickenson
had a running dllel for all three motos.
To make thin
even harder, Nov.
Eddie Coulter (('
barrassed both J r's
by gaining the Ie
several times in the
second and thil
motos, only to be
repassed on the I ;g downhill. Since the
Jrs. and Novices ran together, Coulter,
who got a third overall, won his class
and Dickenson, a second in his.
Due to small 100 ovice tumou t,
A.M.C. combined them witb the
Beginners. The first moto of this
combined class saw Kawasaki rider Don
Bogiomo !load wire to wire, and Randy
Schloe (the Novice) who normally rides
a Bultaco finish in tbe pack on his
backllp Yamaha.
When the second moto rolled
around, it was Bogiomo who was again
but is still not able to take the measure
of Holcomb's Suzuki.
John Vandergeest got in for another
third place finish in the 250 Expert
class, the same spot he occupied with
his CZ last week. Joe Johnston gassing
his Husky ..really fiying the Lions Leap
and bombing the comers, put in one of
the better rides of his young career to
finish second. The Candy Man topped
the 250 Experts, plltting another notch
on his CZ iron at this Friday nigh Lions
shoot out.
The 125 Experts traded firsts, thirds,
seven ths, elevenths place finishes,
creating a scorer's nightmare. By the
time the pencils had .been worn down to
stubs and the calculating completed,
Ch tis l\1ogenson emerged victorious on
his Monarch over the usual winner of
this class, Chuck Bower and his Mettco
Penton. Tim Lunde earned the points
for third spot on his Bultaco.
