GARDENA, CAL., Aug. 25, 1972 John Hatdey was stopped in his bid for his fifth straight Main event win. It was not the best night for the red hot Triumph rider as he was also defeated in the heat race. Ron Moore, back in action, after his 11 spill of a few weeks ago, really rode in the heat and scotted under Hateley twice to upset the ace in the five-Iapper. But the win cost, as Moore's engine broke a main shaft, putting him on the sidelines for the Dash and the Final. It really gave Hatdey a boost and he looked like a sure winner. But the Dash found' Lloyd Houchins putting it on Hateley and for the second time it was somebody else first across the line with Hateley second, and DeWayne Keeter in fourth, as an alternate, replacing Moore. Hateley jumped to a big early Ie.ad as challenger Houchins again got carried away on the early laps and fell hard in the south turn. No Moore, No 'Houchins; it should have been in the bag. . But Keeter kept coming from nearly a straigh taway back and lap after lap the gap closed. With three laps to go, DeWayne was close and with one lap to go he grabbed the lead from the surprised and frustrated Hateley. Keeter was the winner on his new Harley-Davidson and the win streak was stopped. Tom Horton (Tri) returned from racing in the Midwest to top the Junior field. Horton won his heat race and then led all the way over Denny Kanegae and Brian LaPlan te. Po in t leader, Larry Gino, continued to have troubles and did not qualify for the Final for the first time this year. The evenly matched John Gennai and Rick Hocking continued to put on another of their classic shows. First it was in the Handicap Trophy Dash for the Novices with Gennai and Hocking finishing in an absolute dead heat tie for the win. The Main Event for the 250s was decided off the starting line as once again Gennai was off to a good start and Hocking off slow, running seven th. The laps ran out before Hocking could attempt to pass for the win and it was Gennai. Hocking came from way back to take a closing third with teammate Mike Renslow holding off his partner at the line for second. HOT HATS 00' 75 cents J...Q Cycle News Dept. CNP P.O. Box 498 .
