TO 'RULES COMMITTEE,
GRAND
CANAL JUMP
CONTEST:
I would like to enter your contest.
but at present I cannot jeopardize my
bike. as I'm using it to get to work,
daily. And so I ask to be permitted to
select an alternate mount. If approved
I'll jump the canal in Bennie's 1961
Ford station wagon, that he sold me for
20 dollars, after he split to live with
John Creamcheese.
I'll be removing 1 front wheel as I'll
be running in the enclosed three wheel
class.
Also wish to know if I can leave the
back window open to act as a spoiler.
Please reply rapidly as my wife is
going to have a baby soon, and I need
the prize money.

GRAVESTONES RULE!
[ would like to see a correction on
the results from Laguna Seca. Rohbie
Cadawaller (Novice No. (41) was riding
a 196<1 Greeves Silverstone instead of a
Yamaha, This was Rob's very first road
race and we're very proud of his 15th
place finish, consideri.ng he was riding a
bike 20 to 30 miles an hour slower.
Look for this young man in the future.

PUFFER POWER
After glancing through your Calendar
section, I found that several
organizations and tracks are now
offering more and more Powder Puff
classes. Myself, as an enthusiastic
Powder Puffer, would like to see
directions prin ted to various tracks
and/or parks such as Rawhide, Corona,
EI Toro, Carlsbad, and Escape Country.
I realize that I could probably call all
of these places to ask for directions as
to their location, but ( feel it would be
to their advantage if they'd include
directions in the Calendar listing or the
advertisemen ts. I know that more
"puffers" would show if they knew how
to get there!
Keep on puffin '!!

Amos Cardlin's first mount was not a
Henderson but a Moto.·popo and what
uplummetted" 'him to notoriety was his
endo at the f Tooshey Speedway. A
precision inSJjection of his trash cans
shows him ta be a wine and ketchup
freak. Let's !get things straigh t for a

SUPREME'COURT HELMET
CASE
\
Thanks for your second $100
donation. You and Lou Kinzey are the
only ones from the coast to have
helped. The price. of one gallon of
gasoline from half the riders who don't
want t9 have to wear helmets all the
time would pay fpr this case. They
would rather pay fines than afford
justice.
.
I have been trYin~ to get professional
help from "friendly" motorcycle
editors. The monthly magazines have an
eight·week lead tim~, and old news is
worthless. Yours is the only good
weekly publication and "that could be of
immense help in reaching the riders
before the case is come and gone.
I ad mit that [! am not too
sophisticated, just a bike rider for 30
years, who knows nothing else. But I
cannot understand this r.esentmenl and
animosity between rival magazine
editors. We all face a common enemy in
this instance, and if you will forgive a
timt:-worn cliche, "united we stand divided we faiL"

TURN IN YOUR STICKlES
VOICES OF THE WEST
HOW ABOUT SKILL?
It was interesting to read Clunk
Clayton's report on the Aqua Festival
Road Races at'Austin, Tex. Especially
his comments on Joe Patton's ill
handling Honda on which he won the
stock production and open Grand Prix
races, quite handilY,1 might add.
I wonder how Joe managed to do
this. Also his lap times were better than
anyone else's on any size motor on a
race course that was by far a small
motor course.
GLENN PATTON

Do you suppose rider skill had anything to
do with it? - Ed.
WHO'S SIDE ARE YOU ON?
A rather large group of riders had a
distressing and disappointing experience
this past weekend.
We had gone to ride on land located
on South Main Street, in Carson, on
which we had been given permission to
ride by Tom Krumbholz, the owner of
American Rider Supply. We were
approached by an L.A. County Sheriff
who told us we were trespassing. We
told him we had permission and from
whom. lie then stated he could not cite
us for trespassing so he cited us for
riding a motorcycle on private land to
the annoyance of others. He further
stated that "those people down at
American River Supply told us to get
those bikers off our land no matter
what you have to do to them." About
that time a Tider went by on a Yamaha
and we asked why he also was not being
cited and were told that he was one of
American Rider's sponsored riders and
the Sheriff was instructed not to cite
him. Why was he not annoying others as
we were?
After being cited we went to
American Rider Supply and were
advised that we were breaking the law,
and they didn't really care what we did
about the citations. \Ve can ap'preciatc
their position that perhap' it got out of
hand bu t why take such a drastic action.
Why nut just tdl us. post a siKn or fence

agencies, we really don't need this kind
of harassment from someone who's
supposed to be on our side.
There are a bunch of us who are
going to have to shell out $25 each to
pay the fine and aren't any too happy
about it.
FORMER CUSTOMERS OF
AMERICAN RIDER SUPPLY
P.S. We now find that, although Tom
Krumbholz told each of us he own.ed
this property when he gave permission,
he does not.
MORE FOR MOREYour one page ad for Mr. Russ
Sanford was really too much. He should
get MORE than two dollars but our club
knows to give a little one must take a
little. We schedule an annual event to
support the AMXT and MORE. We
donated $1,000 to the AMXT. I'm sorry
to report we could not equal that
amount to our only individual that will
get up and speak au t for the motorcycle
rider/racer. Mr. Russ Sanford should get
all the motorcycle clubs' support,
especially financial support. We look
forward to our second annual MORE
benefit.
I did not notice that in our last ad we
(us) failed to include the date of the
race. Maybe we should skip this each
time as we had a record turnout. We
broke our yearly record, hope it
happens again.
