DAJ,.LAS, TEX., July 29, 1972 - Paul
Pressgrove and Robert E. Lee may have
taken home the lion's share of the
money pot in the Expert Finals here
Saturday nigh t bu t it was Teddy Poovey
riding Tommy Conner's Harley-Davison
XR-750in theJuniorroundsthat had the
crowd on its teet.
Poovey, a Dallas boy and local hero,
showed the Harley magic at work as he
cast a spell over the compOetition by
pushing and bouncing his way to a
commanding lead in all his races. Only
after he had won the Junior Main did he
let it be known that the Harley was
brakeless and the throttle was sticking,
he had been slowing the big bike by
hitting the kill button.
After the races an en th usiastic crowd
formed around Poovey and the Harley
and it seemed like every one wan ted to
touch the bike.
In the Novice classes Ricky Simmons

the Trophy Dash against always
charging competition. Mainly in the

second in the Trophy Dash and third in
the Main after a fantastic save from a
violent lock-to-Iock near crash.
A t one point Bates was flying behind
the bike and hitting the ground running,
fIrst one side then the other all the time
with 'the throttle dialed, on. He
recovered and shot down the back
straigh t to th underous applause from
the crowd.
After the action in the lesser classes
the Expert Main was decidedly dull with
only R. Lee and Pressgrove in the really
"go fast" category. This was a
disappointment as it was rumored that
Mike Kidd and J. Rawl whould show.
Unfortunately they went to New
Mexico and Pressgrove had little trouble
defeating Lee.
