AME Carlsbad '" .. M '" :!. N .... en .n C- Ol (f) ~ w Z W ...J (,) >(,) The editor says that dragging your foot helps to steer your CZ. by Tom Corley CARLSBAD, CAL., Aug. 20, 1972 Only very few vans filled with Motocross racers showed up for the AME Carlsbad Raceway Motocross event today for a small but exciting display of racing that seemed to appeal to the average Motocross racer than Lo the super racers that will appear for the CZ Series races. The day's race easily gave many of the usual racers a good shot· at the top spots and gran ted a few of them some rare trophies that they really deserved for putting on a good show and for hangin' in there each week and being consisten t. Junior racer Stu Egli really socked-it-to-'em in the 125 races pouncing over the long list of racers and turning in very high overall posi tions in each moto. Egli racked up a clean first place in the first moto over the Intermediate and Senjor class and proved to be the most likely 125 racer to succeed in further AME racing on his Half-Asse Engineering Bul 125. Rick Sheren seemed very convincingly fast also in this large Junior class and placed second overall on his green Penton. he.ren is seen out at !post all of th_ weekly AME races consjstently and is slowly but surely c1 i m bing the ladder towards the Intermediate stage. Rick's constant backaches and placing in this order were Vince Vawter (Bul), David Mitchell (Bul) and Penton racer Greg Pierce. Kirk Willis usually comes to a race a EI Taro MX by V. Lanza EL TORO, CAL., Aug. 16, 1972 Honda still rules the Schoolboy class, and ,tonight was proof of that fact. Honda lOok the top three places in all divisions of Schoolboy, except for the lone holdout in division I on the Yamaha, Jim Dean. Bobby Tocco had little competition and captured the first place honors with little effort, while Jeff Wilson held on the entire night to second. Johanna Stenerson the unbeatable EI Toro Powder Puffer, made a surprise appearance in the SchoolDoy and grabbed the second place finish behind Ken Morgan. Her second finjsh in the little bike cla.'s had no effect on the Powder Puff as she barreled her way to another sweep. Honda also had a good nigh t in the 100 Junior picking up quite a few of the R.A.C.E. "All Junior MX by Dale Teubner CORONA, CAL., Aug. 18,1972 - The spectator and rider turnout is growing rapidly for All Junior, Friday night motocross at Corona Racew ay. Word is finally out that all riders are treated with long motos and a lot of fun at Corona Raceway during this Friday night show. Although the Mini Cycle and Powder Puff classes have remained small, the rest of the classes have grown considerably. There were approximately 125 riders in attendance. However, only two signed up in the Mini Cycle class and they were Bill Taylor and Steve Enriques. Bill took the win and (would you believe) Steve came in for second. Only three Powder Puff riders showed up and this class was dominated by Sharon Staten on her Ossa followed by Dottie Frost, our usual winner, and Kathy Hoffman came in for third. The Old timer's class has grown considerably and we found quite a few newcomers 10 this class from the Oldtimer's Motorcycle Club and it was good to see them out. This class was won by Don Finney who took one first and two third places, and second place went to Roger Dickens on a CZ. The 100 class was won by Bob Seeley on a Yamaha. The 125 Junior class was again dominated by Dana Peters on a Yamaha. -Mike Rawley gave him quite a _ top POSItions in all divisions. Dennis Sigalos, Gene Woods, Roland Rodman and Ken Wolford got the rest of the top spots in the 100 mounted on Hodakas. The 125 Junior III held few surprises, though, as Pat Perkins again got top position even with a DNF in the last moto. Bob Hoover and Mark Zoller polished off the other divisions in the 125 class. Bill Fricke and Doug Silverstein both in a battle to the final moto in their respective divisions of the 250 class, and both managed to grab honors in the final tally. Jack Wright seemed to have problems tonight as he finished third in the 500 which he usually wins, giving Mike Reber the chance to win it all. _ race in the first moto. They were constantly passing each other for the lead and the race was not decided until it came right down to the wire. Peters, after passing R ... ley in the last tum, w won. Unfortunately, Mike Rawley's Pen ton broke after this ahd he could not continue to compete. In the 250 Junior class we found Pat Killilea, who only lives a stone's throw frbm the track coming in first on his very trusty Husky. Pat has been riding Corona quite a long time and hasn't had too much luck in winning overall as he did this evening. It was good to see him take the win. Morgan Malocco, on a Yamaha, came in for second overall with two seconds and a fifth. There were quite a number of 250 Beginners signed up and therefore they were broken down into two divisions. In Division I Glen Daniels was finally able to pu t it all together and took the firstplace win on the strength of three seconds. Adrian Hernandez on a CZ came in for second with Jeff Van Wieren third. In Division II Bob Brown clinched the overall win on the strength of two first place finishes with Steve Mitchell on a CZ second and Dick Miller on a CZ third. In the 500 Junior class Mike McKnight, on a very healthy Maico, took home the blue ribbon with Craig Diehl on a Suzuki second. Husky 450 in the hot AME 500 class but today Kirk was seen hacking it out at the top of the 125 class with the other guys and was doin' great all the way to bag a first place as a 125 Interm.ediate on a smooth performing new Husky 125. Second place man Craig J ohmon did a fine job of racing and made many of the Jumors eat it on his fearless Penton 125. Coast Moto Cycle racer Ron Schwab entered the 250 Juniors instead of his usual entry in the 125 Junior class and did just as outstanding with a dominating win over the other eager AJVlE 250 Junior troopers. Ron Schwab aJunior flew right after the Intermediates and Seniors with many rarely heard-of 250 Juniors trying to trace his track in style. These Juniors found that the positions were coming easier than ever and the nex t three positions were captured by Eric Watral (Yam), Gary Yamashita (Yam) and Bob McBroom on a Jawa/CZ. This next coming Sunday the American Motocross Enterprises will be.. holding a Sportsmen even t at the European track at Carlsbad where trophies will be awarded to the winners. The Old Timers Club will be there to pu t on some good racing so head on ou t for some great new action. Over on the Motocross track at Sadrlleback the AME will host a regularly scheduled event on the same day.
